Maybe I missed it... how does he appeal to the south? He has virtually the lowest possible rating from the NRA. That alone will kill him (except for FL... his age might help there). PA would be the swing state he would most help turn blue, no?
At least Obama found someone that likes to hear their self talk as much as Obama. No doubt that Biden helps where Obama is weak, but at the same time, it is such a dramatic difference that it might draw more attention to it.
I would think it would help mostly to keep people that already support Obama on Obama's side... I'm not sure exactly how Biden will bring in troves of independents.
Democrats just lost their ability to slam McCain's age too.
Florida, Georgia, Virginia, Biden will resonate with blue-colar workers. NRA/gun control of the VP isn't enough to sway their votes. The south has struggled with poverty more and more (your area, alabama, mississippi, etc, are lost to McCain, but Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia)
Biden works as a re-assurance.
VP age (-6 from McCain), doesn't matter as presidential age. Besides, Biden is almost two presidential terms younger than McCain.
Maybe, but not the supporters I've seen on CNN's iReport.
They keep saying that Obama lost their vote because he didn't pick Hillary.
Seriously, first it was changing the rules about Florida and Michigan even though Hillary agreed on the terms before the primary season started, and now it's because she wasn't picked as VP.
And they accuse Obama of brain-washing!
I can't decide who these people are; sore-losers or whiny brats?
They're part of a small, but whiney group. Take my word for it, the people you see on iReport are the PUMAs, and there's very few like them. They're a vocal group of sore loosers, who will realize that voting for McCain is assinine when alligned with their political views, and that Hillary has no chance in 2012, even if Obama looses.
The campaigns also plant people to do that. I wouldn't be suprised if they're some McCain workers.
I go to a flea market, and I talked to two women, and granted, I know my sample size is small, but:
They were both aged ~60/65.
I asked them what they think about Obama picking Biden (overheard them)
Person 1: I think it's good, I've liked Obama from the start, and I think Biden will appeal to hillary supporters/blue-colar labor.
Person 2: I'm actually a registered republican, and I wanted hillary, but I think Joe biden is good. Barack is good with foreign leaders, he's diplomatic, and they like him, which we need, add to that Biden's experience, and it's a winning ticket. I don't really think very many Hillary supporters are going to vote for McCain.
