Bioshock's survivor mode fully explained

If you've read our latest report on Bioshock, then you're probably inclined to search out for information on the mysterious and PS3-exclusive "survivor mode." What is it exactly? Well, the Cult of Rapture -- 2K's official Bioshock website -- explains that it's a "new, highly challenging difficulty."

In other words, it's a fancily named "very hard" difficulty with all the bells and whistles of an excruciatingly masochistic romp through Rapture. "Every fight is a decisive, life-or-death struggle," said 2K. Enemies are tougher and deal more damage. It looks like Bioshock vets who want to give the game another go with the PS3 version have another reason to play through. And look, it has trophies so you can show off those mad skillz.

Sounds pretty tough, but there's nothing wrong with that Smile

RE: Bioshock's survivor mode fully explained

I'm guessing it'll be like the PC version. "Vita-chambers" will be disabled so when you die its all over.

Doesn't add much, (in litteral terms, it removes something) if you've played the game once, I don't see why anyone would buy it again, let alone the fact it'll definatly have a higher price.

RE: Bioshock's survivor mode fully explained

BioShock PS3 Looks Better, Plays Harder (Say IGN)

The PS3 version of BioShock is a little different to the 360/PC one. It'll have downloadable "challenge rooms" for starters, but it'll also feature a new difficulty mode, "Survivor". Which is a stupid name. It should really be called "Will Kick Your Ass Up And Down Rapture". Instead of tweaking things like AI, they've instead decided to cut off pretty much all of your ammo, leaving you in many instances to pick up a gun with a single bullet in it. It'll also jack up the price of plasmids, reduce the amount of health vita chambers give you and just generally make the game, oh, impossible.

That's one of the main gameplay additions covered, but IGN are also reporting that that the PS3 version features improved visuals, with "cleaner high resolution textures for every facet of the game". They also say the water effects look "much slicker" than what we'll assume is the 360 version. So, improvements all round, then! Question is, PS3 owners: does this make up for the long wait?

Even if it was the exact same game as the 360/PC version, I'm sure PS3 fans would be happy to finally get their hands on it. Now with these nice improvements, this is a definite must-buy for PS3 owners.

RE: Bioshock's survivor mode fully explained

that was an awesome trailer. i like how it was able to show off tons of gameplay and have it spoiler-free too.

and i agree, if ps3 onwers have never played bioshock, then it's a must. whether you rent or buy, you have to play it.

I'm definitely buying this. I've never actually played it but I've always heard good things about it.

Everyone I've talked to agrees with you Rooster, and says this game is a must buy. I looked it up on Wikipedia, to get a background of the game, and it looks like a lot of time went into the story, even if it was originally suppose to be very different.

Yahtzee taking a bite out of this game means nothing. He just hates for the sake of hating.

Either way, I'll pick up this game when it hits bargain bin (or greatest hits) prices.

RE: Bioshock's survivor mode fully explained

This game really was amazing. I loved it. Quite the long wait for PS3 owners so good thing it's sorta tweaked.

But Survivor mode? Whose going to even play that? XD This game willl already kick your ass.
