GBA not yet dead, says Miyamoto
Despite there being very little talk about GBA nowadays, Nintendo honcho Shigeru Miyamoto insists there's still life in the single-screen handheld.
Speaking to Kotaku, Miyamoto says the hardware is still selling well (doesn't every human on earth own seven by now?) and because of that Nintendo is still supplying hardware to the market.
But he goes on to admit that Nintendo's focus has shifted to newer platforms. "[Nintendo's] internal development teams have their hands full with creating content for Wii and DS. We're focusing on that and not creating new software for the GBA at this time."
But he cites the GBA's huge library of games as the key factor that's keeping the old handheld going. "There are still a lot of games on the platform that the current consumer still have not played so there's still life in it yet."
But if you're on the look out for new games, your choices are limited. Crash of the Titans, Avatar: The Last Airbender and a few other movie-licensed games are all that's to come in the foreseeable future.

Why GBA 2 and not DS 2.
ummm, it's called ds lite
There are only a few good games on the GBA, but it's still pretty good.

the DS lite isn't really a DS 2. a new system has to have redone hardware including graphics processors and such. the DS lite is the same as a DS, just a slightly different body. just like the GBA SP and GBA Micro aren't really GBA 2 or 3, more like GBA 1.1 and 1.2

I don't think the GBA franchise will continue in anything except sales. It's astounding that it still sells even with the DS on the market.

The GB will never die! But I guess it isn't unwise for Nintendo to shift development to the DS, it's selling like crazy everywhere now isn't it?

Aboslutely nothing new (at GC 2008), the only exciting thing i have seen was the killzone 2 mp trailer and i dont even own a 360.

Correct. I wonder what the next Nintendo Handheld will be called. I guess it all depends and what kind of barrier it breaks. I know it won't be a while because of the great sales from the DS.

RE: GBA not yet dead, says Miyamoto
I also suppose this is due to the fact that the DS isn't compatible with the original Game Boy and Game Boy color games.

RE: GBA not yet dead, says Miyamoto
the solution is simple. buy that original GB or GBC game, then download a ROM to play the game on your DS's media system. if i remember correctly, it's not illegal to own/play a ROM if you have the game. of course, sharing it would be illegal, but we don't do that around here
>.>
<.<
imo, there's really no reason to go back to the GB/GBC games with the huge library of awsome titles on the GBA and DS, and sense the DS plays the GBA games, there's no real reason to have a GBA. the system is dead even if the games aren't

I was thinking along the lines of Pokemon G/S/C (Which I haven't gotten/played yet) and LoZ Oracle of Seasons/Ages.

RE: GBA not yet dead, says Miyamoto
The GBA was the first video game system I ever had. My parents believed in a non video game householf for ten bleeping years before I finally got a GBA during the summer going into fifth grade. Believe me I was grateful, I played it for hours on end, and spent all of my money on new games. I am forevever indebted to my GBA, for without it, I wouldn't be the gamer I am today. You wouldn't be able to tell just by looking at me, (or reading my profile), that I lived without video games for a whole decade. Thanks Miyamoto, I'll repay you once I am a millionaire
