HDTV -> Monitor help

My friend dropped off his 50" LCD Sony Bravia at my house for a month while he's away in Europe, and I have no clue how to use it as a monitor.

I plugged in the cable to the monitor slot (hoping that it'll work like all monitors and just work; it didn't)

Naturally the Input mode has to be changed, but I tried all of them (component 1-3, HDMI 1-2, GAME, and even DVD) but nothing worked.

So I'm out of ideas, help would be greatly appreciated.

(Just so you know I have an NVidea 8600GTS and is HD capable.)
(and Running XP)

Thanks in advance.

RE: HDTV -> Monitor help

I would think your computer would recognize the TV and set it up using plus and play, Otherwise you'd go into the TV menu and maybe tell it to run as a computer monitor?

RE: HDTV -> Monitor help

More info, it's a Sony Bravia KDL-52W3000, and no PC Mode in sight.
Just Video 1,2,3, Component 1, Game, HDMI 1, HDMI2/DVD.

One more thought, I might have to change some settings on the graphics card, I'll tinker around a bit, but any help would be great, thanks.

EDIT: Ok, so I've checked the user manual online, and it's no help, since its instructions are about how to get a laptop to work with the TV, and involves hanging settings on the PC while it is connected to he TV. However, I'm trying to attach my gaming PC to the TV, and I have no splitter, so I only can have one monitor at a time, thus I can't change setting while connected to the TV. Urg...

Even so, it should be possible to get a regular PC to work with it, considering a laptop can.

okey doke first off you have 2 choices,
RGB or HDMI/DVI

then you gotta make sure that one of the emBoldened options,
is set to your output, USE ONE YOUR CURRENT MONITOR CAN SUPPORT.

Then plug in to the bravia using the RGB cable, if thats the one you use, if you use a DVI cable you will need to get a HDMI to DVI cable, or HDMI cable with a DVI adapter.

then go to

on the xmb for the telly.

and sellect pc input for RGB or HDMI 1,2 or 3 depending what HDMI socket you choose to use.

hope this helps

If it doesn't help,
what driver set are you using,
what's your current monitors resolution. and how do you connect to your current monitor.

RE: HDTV -> Monitor help

It was the settings xD Thanks for pointing that out.

Appearantly the PC input setting was disabled, I enabled it and now it works like a charm.

Can't believe it took me over 2 hours to get this going. V_V

On the plus side, BioShock looks great xD

Now all I need is a surround sound system. But for now headphones shall do.
