RE: Mario series or the zelda series
zelda's better
the stories. the character depth. the combat systems. the items. the puzzles. the shear experience of adventure. better than jumping on things heads every few seconds

RE: Mario series or the zelda series
This is a tough decision.
Mario rox, and Zelda rox.
But if I had to choose between getting a Zelda game and a Mario game...
I'd have to commit suicide get the Zelda game.
I agree with Rodimus.
BTW, you may want to make this a poll...

RE: Mario series or the zelda series
Yeah poll...i wanna exercise my right to vote , anywho it is a very very tough decision that 5 years ago i would have said mario, but now i would go with zelda all the way just because i like the gameplay and the puzzles better, and of course the storyline.

RE: Mario series or the zelda series
Flaming = BAD!!!!
Plus i would assume like myself that most people would have a more difficult decision because they are both great games

RE: Mario series or the zelda series
some of the zelda games are cut and paste from other games, but there are some very new concepts as well. most of Windwaker was incredibly original. some things in Mario have been original, like the water cannon, but in the end you're almost always going to fight bowser and almost always jumping on something's head
they're both quite innovative, and yet stale as week old bread at the same time

RE: Mario series or the zelda series
I don't think this is as cut and dried as some people here think.
Yes, Zelda is more indepth and has a deeper storyline. It was designed that way. Mario games have a certain feel to them, though. They are generally completely action orientated, and you are always doing something. You don't flip through menus or change your outfit, etc. It's just the way they are designed.
I think Zelda is winning right now because people have forgotten how great a Mario game can be. I believe the last "great" Mario gave was 64 (excluding New Super Mario Bros for the DS), and before that was Super Mario World. Zelda has two (three if you count WW like I do) since then, with OoT being one of the best games ever made and TP being the first Zelda to launch a system, and a heavily anticipated game/system combo at that.
So yes, I would say that Zelda has overtaken Mario in great games lately, but the classic Mario games that made me love video games altogether still make me choose Mario. I hope Galaxy brings Mario back into the limelight.
