RE: McCains VP kind of hot...
drew, a lot of those core conservatives won't vote for a woman, no way, no how.
And Holly, that kid isn't hers, and here's why. (Sarah however, did act very irresponsibly going on the plane)
It has just been confirmed that Bristol Palin is 5 months pregnant. Abstinance education? Christian values? 17 year old, unmarried and pregnant? There goes the Evangelical vote to Bob Barr, there goes the election to Barack Obama. Without that vote, which I GUARANTEE, I know a few evangelicals, and they'd never vote for a woman (that's BS), let alone one with a pregnant daughter, McCain will loose.
Plus, a downs syndrome baby, pregnant daughter, could she ever handle taking over as president? No. I'd be scared to death of her running the nation. I expect her resignation for personal issues comming soon.

RE: McCains VP kind of hot...
Yeah I just read that. Its funny how teaching abstinence fails over and over and over again, and makes tragedy of young people's lives (Bristol is now being forced to marry the father of her child. Sarah says she chose to keep the child on her own. YEAH RIGHT. People just probably knew she was pregnant, and knew that if it magically disappeared, that Bristol had aborted and that would have been even more damaging to Palin's career.) and yet people will still preach it ad nauseam. News flash: life happens. Nothing goes by the book. Have a little compassion. Trying to "correct" the mistake by getting married doesn't erase it. The "sin" is commited, its done. Don't make a bad situation worse.

RE: McCains VP kind of hot...
BREAKING: People see through the pandering, and learn the horrid truths behind Sarah Palin.
Gallup Daily: Back to Obama/Biden 49, McCain/Palin 43, all days now AFTER the selection of Palin. (Suggesting the latest day as an 8 point Obama lead again)
CBS poll (conducted after pick): Obama/Biden 48, McCain/Palin 40.
Hate to break it to you joker, but the wonderful pick hasn't happened. The DNC bounce is real, and there is no shift, especially with the failure of the RNC.

Christmas come early for the Democrats.
EDIT: His name slips my mind, but one of the most sucessful pundits in politics, who has a very good reputation said that if the RNC isn't sucessful, the GOP is finished. You don't put your name on the line like that unless you're sure.

It depends. It's turning out not to be as strong as anticipated, so analysts are saying it may look as if McCain overreacted. The media is also covering how Obama is mobilizing supporters and donations to the Red Cross as well.
It went from being a category 1 hurricane to having been categorized as a "Tropical Storm." People in New Orleans described it as a "Piece of cake" on the news last night.

Pictures were just released of Bristol, who is 17 by the way, in three different situations with alcohol in her hands. What a winner.
Thanks Bristol, you just secured Barack's presidency. I'll be sending a gift basket of condoms and Malibu rum later. Oh wait...never mind.

RE: McCains VP kind of hot...
Bleh, what I had read (at the time) listed her as a moderate except on abortion. However, she does seem to be pretty conservative. I also forget that democrats, who are normally all about civil liberties, do not support guns.
However, I disagree with the conservative right not going to GOP because of Palin... they should flock to them. The same people that would not vote for her because she is a woman would probably not vote for Obama because he is black.
I do still think it will be a closer race than the internet community is expecting (we always lean liberal, as do most forms of news). Everyone had Gore as a strong favorite, and the internet crew also placed their bets with Kerry. Both lost.
Will Obama get the nod? Perhaps. He's better at campaigning than governing. Will his far left ideals drive us further into socialism? Yep. We do need change, but taking our current course and shoving us further in that direction is not change... One side wants to chip away our civil liberties in the name of safety and religion, the other wants to chip away our economic liberties in the name of the greater good... Either way, we, the people, are losing.
I do prefer McCain over Obama, but again, I won't be voting for either at this point. The only thing that bothers me are the Obama sheep that defend him against anything. Do you really hate the GOP so much that you'll follow the first charismatic figure that vaguely promises "change"?

RE: McCains VP kind of hot...
Nope, but I do hate the idea of being ushered into World War III by an ancient, out of touch windbag who'll only use the presidency to further push the American agenda on the rest of the world through force. I guess the big difference between him and Obama, for me, is that with Obama, at least that fate is not a guarantee, whereas with McCain, it is. A POW that won't just increase military spending, extend tours of duty, send more troops to more places where they don't (and we don't, as a country) belong...? Unheard of. That just won't happen. And that is what I want a change from. At least with Obama its not a guarantee that will happen. Things are so bad right now, that yes, I WILL find comfort in that, as slim as a chance that may be. The only person I REALLY want to vote for is Ralph Nader, given he's the only politician that has ever walked the walk and talked the talk, the only one who's ever proven that he actually cares about people and the causes he champions. When it comes down to it, there's no one worth voting for if you consider all the things they'll do in office to pay back the lobbyists who gave them money, but if it were Ralph Nader, I doubt that'd be the case.
Not to mention, McCain's ideals and viewpoints are completely misaligned from my own. I dislike religion and war. I don't wish to live in a country where you cannot get birth control, abortions, or contraceptives. I dislike misogynists and sexists (and as far as sexists go, McCain is absolutely one of the most disgusting)...so why the hell would I vote for McCain? Has NOTHING to do with just "hating the GOP". To lump it together as simply as all that is an attempt to verbally undermine and patronize the liberal vote as being flighty and uninformed and full of doey eyed optimism, when in fact, for me, and many other non Republicans, its anything but. I think its very condescending for you to have worded your statement that way, to dismiss us all as simply "haters".
*sigh*I've been referred to as a Democrat but I don't think I really am. Far too liberal for that.

RE: McCains VP kind of hot...
Far cry, joker.
I'll take Obama's liberal stance over McCain's fascism any day. Bill Clinton, unarguably, had this country in far better economic shape than it is today.
I'm not speaking about the internet community, the polls don't lie, they heavily favor Obama. Add to that intrade, and the fact that young people (about 9-10% of the electorate, dont have landlines, and that's only how you can be polled. (young people are estimated 70 to 30 for Obama). Don't underestimate a high African American turnout in Virginia and North Carolina, too, tipping the scales.
Anyway:
New data:
Gallup Tracking 08/30 - 09/01 2772 RV 50 42 Obama +8
Rasmussen Tracking 08/30 - 09/01 3000 LV 51 45 Obama +6
Hotline/FD 08/29 - 08/31 RV 48 39 Obama +9
All after the palin pick, seems to me like that monumentous shift, or "leveling out", hasn't occured. Seems to me Palin flopped, and Obama remains strong.
I'll say it again. Independents DONT like Palin. Independents are needed to win. When more independents say she makes them less likely than more likely to vote for McCain, that is NOT good for the GOP.

BREAKING: TALK OF PALIN STEPPING OUT HAS BEGUN
Intrade, a popular "stock" site which trades on current political issues, already has created a stock based on Palin resigning before the GE. Guess what? It's been purchased so quickly (up 12% in one day), that it's made the front page. It's no indicator, but it's quite significant.
If this happens, McCain IS finished. He will be so disgraced, and his judgement so questioned, and since the RNC is looking more and more like a flop, I couldn't see recovery.
Check out this DEVISTATING new ad, showing McCain proudly boasting his voting record with G.W.B 90% of the time.

RE: McCains VP kind of hot...
Yeah and it doesn't stop there...
The Palin Meltdown in Slo-Mo
On the same day that the Republicans were forced to dramatically cut back their convention activities, the Palin Meltdown unfolded with extraordinary speed. It's worth pondering the totality of what happened today, in a mere half day...
* The news that Palin once backed the Bridge to Nowhere went national.
* It emerged that Palin has links to the bizarro Alaska Independence Party, which harbors the goal of seceding from the union that McCain and Palin seek to lead.
* The news broke that as governor, Palin relied on an earmark system she now opposes. Taken along with the Bridge to Nowhere stuff, this threatens to undercut her reformist image, something that was key to her selection as McCain's Veep candidate.
* The news broke that Palin's 17-year-old daughter became pregnant out of wedlock at a time when the conservative base had finally started rallying behind McCain's candidacy.
* Barely moments after McCain advisers put out word that McCain had known of Bristol Palin's pregnancy, the Anchorage Daily News revealed that Palin's own spokesperson hadn't known about it only two days ago.
* A senior McCain adviser at the Republican convention was forced into the rather embarrassing position of arguing that McCain had known about the pregnancy "last week" -- without saying what day last week he knew about it.
* It came out that Republican lawyers are up in Alaska vetting Palin -- now, more than 72 hours after it was announced that she'd been picked.
* Palin lawyered up in relation to the trooper-gate probe in Alaska -- a move that ensures far more serious attention to the story from the major news orgs.

RE: McCains VP kind of hot...
Holy, I've read everything said in here (American politics is very interesting) and I've got to say...wow...
How could America not vote for Obama? Honestly America needs change, as much as everyone dislikes that you guys hold so much influence, you do, and there's no denying it. No offence either, but it's just my opinion that no country should hold as much influence as the States do, even though there always seems to be one big power when it comes to history, Rome, Britain, Greece, it always happens, and it generally doesn't end well. We really do need to think about the future...I think if McCain becomes President America may eventually fall to the fate of the other ancient super powers, only in a more modern way. But I think, with Obama, America could return to it's former glory. I mean, what other country gets as much attention when they are picking a leader?
And Palin, boy...what a royal screw up. Nothing more really needs to be said, I think she secured Obama's victory. So, awesome!
