Might makes Right!

Does it? For a strange trip in flow of thought, here goes.

Pacifism invites pity. As a pacifist, you are pathetic and incapable of accomplishing anything; it's only through gaining the pity of others willing to take action for you that things change.

The powerless incite the powerful to do their work for them. As history has shown, it can work... but only if others are willing to stop and whisper "Jeez, that's pretty fucked up isn't it? We should do something about it."

What happens when no one cares?

Quite simply, the events transpiring between China and Tibet. Were they not brutalizing the citizens and all of that sort of vile ****? Peaceful protests met with superior might, and a world that turns a blind eye. Well, a blind eye is turned to a lot of things...

Where am I going with this now? Ah yes.

Only in a perfect world, a paradise could Pacifism truly work and all problems be solved through simple logical discussion. Unfortunately, we aren't Gods; at least not yet. Simply because man now walks upright, makes him no less of a beast than he was at the dawn of his time.

The strongest survives for a reason.

RE: Might makes Right!

Damn walking upright, such a stupid "evolutionary" transition. To much pressure on the lower back, and then we get slipped disks... Yeah, who said evolution was for the better? (Not to be answered, just making a joke here)

On topic:

This isn't completely true. Pacifism has its strengths, and weaknesses; like you said, it relies on pity.
By pity I mean, the "oppressors" of the pacifism will stop oppressing cause they don't want to be seen like the adult attacking the defenseless child. For if they are seen that way, the other "strengths" will see them in ill light and take action against them. However, if the other strengths don't care, then the adult can continue beating the child.

It has been, and always will be the fact that power comes from strength, if we take it like you said.
The weak can be in power (with brains for example), but who will do it's bidding? The strong. Everything relies on strength, weakness has no place here. The strong may have the power, but they can be controlled.

Of course, to take control of something strong; I hardly think it can be done without going against some moral code of pacifism.
