Mr.Luben Reviews Star fox 64

Star Fox 64

reviewed by

Mr.Luben

Strange activitey has been spoted on Venom. Venom....The very word puts tinggles down foxes spin. It was the evil scientist on Venom that took his father. It was the army on Venom that almost destroyed the Lylat system. And it was the evil on venom that fox and his team will have to face again in the epic video game, Star Fox 64.

---Story---

After the death of foxes father, Fox must rise up and become the leader of the Starfox team. The lylat system's leader planet, Corneria, comes under attack and Andross has declared war on the lylat system. It is now up to fox and his team to stop this evil scientist before he takes over.

This may sound really cheessy, but it's not. Its a good story line that takes a twist with every stage. And seeing how there are 3 diffrent ways to take, there are basicly 3 diffrent story lines. So, it dose have some replay value trying to get to that third story line. The lack of cut scences is OK cuse it makes up for that in the stages were it makes plot twists and so on. So, if your craving a nice Si-fi story line with evil scientists, laser guns and talking frogs, this is toatly for you!

---Grapics---

The graphics for Star fox 64 are not in full 3d for the whole game. There are points were your could switch to all range mode. But other than that, it was a scroll shotter. So, if you were hoping to fly free around space, you will be gravely disipointed. But other than that, the graphics were fairly good. The level is about that of Super Mario 64 and the all range mode is fairly large and easy to move in. The enemy explosions are......well ok i guess. They simpley look to much like a 2d pice of paper (As with many early N64 games Super mario 64, ocarina of time, ext.) So other than the explosions, its great!

---Gameplay---

So the big thing with this game is how it compares with Super star fox. It oviusely beats it in visuals, but dose it beat it in gameplay? I would have to say "heak yes!!". The 3d side scrolling is fantastic! They simpley mastered the way you fly your R-wing around in a 3d world. Aming is simple and always fun. The allrange mode is also great to be in. Its easy and fun.

There are also 3 vhicale that will make aperincess in the game.

R-wing — The primary craft used by the Star Fox team in the game, the R-wing is a spacecraft armed with one standard laser (which can be upgraded) and is capable of firing Nova Bombs which help a whole lot! As with all of the Star Fox series, barrel rolling is an important part of gameplay because the ship deflects lasers while doing a barrel roll. (Do a barrel roll!!!)

Landmaster — A tank-like vehicle, the Landmaster is only used on two levels in the entire game. The Landmaster has one standard laser. Like the Arwing, the Landmaster can perform a barrel roll and fire Nova Bombs. The barrel roll done by the Landmaster is used only as an evasionary tactic because it doesn't really deflect lasers. The Landmaster can hover a short time in addition to being able to perform a boost.

Blue Marine — This sub can only be used on Aquas, which houses a primarily aquatic environment. The Blue Marine has one standard laser which can be upgraded, and also has an unlimited supply of torpedoes which not only damage enemies but also allow the player to see when there is limited light.

Apart from single player, there is a fun multiplayer. The multiplayer alows for 4 people at once playing in R-wings. As you gain medels in single, you can unlock the landmaster, and playing on foot. You can also upgrade lassers and get bombs.

Now, one of the biggest things about this game is that it was the first to have suport for the rummble pack. Not haveing rumble on the classic controllers really dose hurt the experiance and makes it not as into it......I really hope that some day they come out with an rummble enabled classic controller. But, overall, the gameplay expericance is sweet!

---Music---

The music in the game is almost the same all around except for when you are faceing bosses. The boss music is more intence and in your face type. The best music is on the last level because it's the most intence and awesoem level.

Story---9/10---Good si-fi story with talking frogs
Graphics---8.8/10---Good 3d graphics for the most part
Gameplay---9.5/10---A really fun 3d scroller!
Music---8.5/10---Mostly the same throught except for some levels and bosses
Overall---9.2/10---A great game with great fun!
Get this game---Of course you should! And instant classic!!

Excellent review. It's been so long since I've played this game that I forgot about the other vehicles!

Thanks for the refresher most definitely! The only thing I can see this game letting me down on is the lack of rumble feature...When is Ninty going to pull a 180 in that department dammit!

RE: Mr.Luben Reviews Star fox 64

Well, first of all, i spent 2 days working on this and when you say that it sounds like i am just some n00b who doesn't know how to review, that kills man. And another thing, EVERY one on this site knows that i can't spell, so get used to it!! And second of all, it is pretty much illegal to take some one else's work. So I'm not going to go into wikipedia and steal whatever some one wrote about this game. And finally, who gives a crap if its R-wing or Ar-wing.....

Let's keep the flaming down here people.
Although I will say Luben, try to get a third party spell checker (if you're using IE or Opera) or use Firefox's. And just try to be sure of your facts (the whole Arwing issue). But you already know where I stand with your reviews.

RE: Mr.Luben Reviews Star fox 64

99.9 percent of the stuff on wikipedia is factual information. the .o1 percent that isn't is usually not cited information. why do you think they have a staff of editors? what in the world causes people to dis teh wiki? if you question the informatio, go to the bottom of the page and look at the links or click on the superscript numbers after each peice of info. wiki is a beter souce that any other part of the internet. about the only better source of information in the world is the library of congress. i'm not trying to flame anyone here, sorry it cossed any problems, but reviews influence how poeple spend their money, that's what they're for, and i just think it better to have a little more care taken towards this stuff. i'm sure if any of us were reviewing we'd rathier have other mebers bring up any problems than someone who takes a review the wrong way and starts spamming the boards.

I find 99.9% to be a bit of an exaggeration.

Listen, you. If you don't post positive/constructive suggestions for somebody else's review, do NOT post.
