Nintendo Japan Unleashes Some Super Smash News

Okay, before I go any further I urge Sonic fans to sit down. Yes, that's right my friends; the infamous blue hedgehog has officially been confirmed by Nintendo of Japan according to sources.

The revelation of Sonic was even followed by a special little video of him in action, even transforming into Super Sonic. Now this is just the first part of the big Smash announcements.

Nintendo went on to further discuss their online plans. Sure, the thought of free-for-all fights is awesome, but now they are adding online co-operative mode. Makes this Smash fan wonder what else to expect from the online featured in this game.

Of course, with good news there is always inevitable bad news. The game is delayed in Japan and will not launch there until January 28th. What does this mean for the US release date? Who knows, we'll probably have to wait until EfA to learn the fate of the English version.

The video of Sonic in action is expected to be online soon. Expect it to be posted here as soon as we have it.

EDIT: The video introducing Sonic as well as his character update can be seen on the Smash Dojo as of right now. Another video featuring some gameplay has also been added.

But that is the sight we all feared we'd see.

It'll be interesting to see what happens to the US release date. To my knowledge this game is a Japanese developed game. So what would this Japanese delay mean for an English version?

Nothing... they will have this out for the US holiday schedule. They did the same for the Wii and DS (or DSL, or both?) launches, because they know how important holiday season is for straight sales and hardware sales.

Seems a little sad that its home country will miss out though.

RE: Nintendo Japan Unleashes Some Super Smash News

I just now went to the Dojo, and when I saw the "WARNING! CHALLENGER APPROACHING" sign, I figured, hey; awesome. I scrolled down, but had my eyes covered to enhance the surprise. As soon as I saw the word "Sonic" my jaw dropped. If I were any more excited, I probably would been wet with joy. And urine.

Yes, I was one of the people who said that there was no chance of Sonic getting in Brawl. I admit I am wrong.

I can only imagine what stages and musical scores Sonic will have in the background.

Sonic wins the "stupidest intro award" with "Sonic's the name, speed's my game."

Seriously, what a crappy intro. Oh well, Sonic's clone moves (Jigg's rollout + Yoshi's Egg Roll) aren't too bad.

Can't wait to beat him into the dirt with Ridley.

if it means online co-op then i dont mind, but not i'm thinking we'll still see it 2007. from what we've seen it looks like the game is being made in all languages, so a universal release or something close is likely to happen.

It already appears that it will be. That "TBD" has only *just* appeared today. And Sakurai mentioned there was a bit more work to be done developing yet.

Did you not see me say I didn't mind one of his attacks d: Also, Sonic's intro deserves to be bashed. That was some very lame dialogue he was given... poor hedgehog.

RE: Nintendo Japan Unleashes Some Super Smash News

That still doesn't mean you'll be guaranteed to get this game earlier as well.

Especially now that the Japanese Dojo is the only one with an actual date, all other language Dojo's have "TBD"

RE: Nintendo Japan Unleashes Some Super Smash News

Sorry but I gotta agree with LMX about Sonic's intro dialogue. I mean, WTF? 'Sonic's the name, speeds my game'? How cliche is that?

other than that, Sonic is going to pwn. you'll see...
