Keep in mind that my entire experience with SSB was locally, in Mississippi (mostly during college), and no one here thought to do Internet research, and thus nobody in our very competitive group knew what a wavedash was, among other things.

We always played 6 stock, 4 players, and items on (except Mr. Saturn, he was just annoying).  Otherwise, it was just practice and couldn't be called a "win".  As you can see, this differs greatly from your commonly accepted tournament play.  (of course, we didn't know)

The other big difference is that we *highly* discouraged the use of the C-Stick in any way.  "C-Sticker" was a very derogatory label.  Using the c-stick was evidence of desperation or lack of skill, and nobody was allowed to do it without heavy criticism (save for people completely new to the game).  I believe it blossomed from the fact that C-Sticking could not be used in 1 player mode, only in VS.  Thus, the assumption was that it was added to give novice players a way to enjoy the game, while veterans should stick with the "correct" way to smash, timing their hits and such.

Which leads me to my question.  What do you guys think about using the C-Stick?

I'm sorry I can't help with that since i didn't use it in Melee, and i don't use the GC controller in Brawl. But i don't think it's cheap because in a way it's no different then the shake smash on Wiimote/Nunchuck combo.

I never use it, on the same principle you guys held.

My friend makes liberal use of it, however, and the consensus elsewhere seems to be that it's all part of being an "advanced" player.

It does allow you to do several things that are otherwise impossible/tough with the D-stick + A button.

When I smash I usually use the C-stick. It's just easy and was more useful in Melee than it is in Brawl. I don't see how it's a beginner's tactic though. :/

I use it, but not often. I don't see why it would be a newb tactic either.

I think it would be better if would actually always direct your attack toward the way you tilt it

I hold the same viewpoint as joker, it was a cheap way of getting smashes in.

I don't really use C-Stick, only for real quick smashes. Everything else not really.

Meh, I use it once and awhile. Not often, I don't have any problem with people using it. *shrugs*

Once and a while I use it, but in the fast-paced game, I find it not very useful to move my finger down there to flick it, then bring my finger back up to continue other moves.

For me it just happens subconsciously. But really, considering that pulling off a real smash attack isn't all that hard and doesn't really involve a whole lot of skill I've never really seen the c-stick as much of an advantage. A smash is a smash as far as I'm concerned.

Okay lets set things straight here. The C-stick shouldn't be hated on. I usually use it if I need to get a smash attack off in minimal time but usually stick to the classic way.

NOW. Aerials are where I use the C-stick the most. Its easier and allows me to avoid fast falling if I need to do a d-air.

There's no point labelling it a "beginner's tactic", it makes certain aspects easier and quicker.

Yeah, I forgot to mention aerials. In the air I use C-Stick always, especially with Meta Knight.

I don't think any of my friends use it and I don't either...

I didn't say it was a beginner tactic. That's just how my friends and I viewed it at the time. I can see how it could come in handy in regards to aerials and DI, now that I know.

Well with me, I'm a beginner, like very. So what I do is a few A combos to get them up to around 100 (I'm talking bots here, with online i'd probably want to get them up to 200, but I get PWNED!!!11 before I get to do anything.) then I use A + joystick smashed, cause you can charge them for the little time you have before you use them. But usually, especially when I'm snake, I do up attack so I send them up, which Is what I usually do.

I've never even tried using it in the air but will now do so. I don't use it all that much but I do sometimes. Mostly if I want to do a quick smash as LMX mentioned or when in Sudden Death and you just need the one hit.

That's so scientific, Kasaioni-- Really, a well-placed smash even lower % than that can usually do the trick. If I can knock someone into the air somewhat near the edge of the stage with Falco, I could potentially take them out at 40% with his dAir.

I don't mind it. I used it on occasion. Its when people start jamming on it for EVERY LITTLE THING when I start to get annoyed.

I only use it when i need to pull off quick smashes when they are close to me or when I need some room. Then I proceed with comboing and stuffs. I agree with some of you that say that they dont like it when they smash constantly. Its not good to base our moveset on pure smashes. But I also agree with LMX. It can be be used in a tactical matter and shouldn't be considered a Noob way of playing. Also....when your fighting somebody online how can you tell if they are using the control stick or C-Stick? The hate against the C-stick is kinda pointless when it comes to online...but i hear it regardless....

Who is stupid enough to walk into a fully charged Smash anyway? That's about as smart as walking into Roy's Flare Blade.

Which is why it really REALLY doesn't matter which option you go with... your rarely going to pull off a full power one anyway. Quick Smashes usually do the trick, and the C-stick allows quick Smash attacks.
