PS2 Goes HD

Normally, when hooked up to a HDTV the PS2 would produce a hideously blurry picture. But the Xploder HDTV Player disc fixes this problem, allowing you to play any PS2 game in pin-sharp resolutions.

For those who are on their tech-speak, this disc allows you to put the PS2 into 480p, 576p, 720p and 1080i modes. That's high-res, for the techno newbies out there. It also includes VGA support, so you can hook your PS2 up to a PC monitor.

All you do is plonk the CD into the PS2 and up pops a menu screen. Set your desired resolution, insert your game and off you go. We tested it with two Sony HDTVs, both running OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast. With the HDTV Player pre-loaded on one PS2, the difference was immediately noticeable. We're talking Xbox 360 sharpness, and absolutely no effect on frame-rates at all.

One of the strangest things about this is that it adds nothing to your PS2. It simply unlocks a mode that is already there!

RE: PS2 Goes HD

What? It was already there?
Ok, Sony, you're just screwed up, first you lower the price of the PS3, ok, good, then you release your third modle of the PS3 (80GB) Ok, but why?
And now you tell us that the PS2 had HD capabilities all the while? I'm so confused.

RE: PS2 Goes HD

It's mostly a loader program, because if you think about it, if the PS2 could do high def all the time, then Sony would have told us this a long time ago. I remember hearing about this a long time ago and actually thought about it, because my PS2 looked really bad on my HDTV.

RE: PS2 Goes HD

I'd like to try this on Dragon Quest....it looks really bad and jagged on my HDTV, so I'm guessing it would look really good using this product.

If anyone's ever bought this product let us know, or if you plan on buying it.

Maybe they'll come out with a Nintendo Wii version?

RE: PS2 Goes HD

I think someone who still plays their PS2 should purchase this and do a full review of the product...I'd be very interested to know how it works.

RE: PS2 Goes HD

But, Will it Blend, that is the question? Duh-na-na-nuh-na-na BAM BAM.
*had to
Anyway, I'm more curious to see how well the framerates are, and how it does it. As I said before, the conundrum is thus. Can the PS3 handle HD, but if so, it must have been implimented. Or does this upscale it, but the PS3 hardware doesn't have what it takes to upscale, unless theres hidden technology that was never disclosed...

If anyone can get more info, please, I'd love to read on how it works, and see what they may have done.
