Phantom Hourglass hands on - first impressions

I'm not going to go into lots of detail about how I got to play it, but I did Wink (Jap version obviously). I'm also going avoid giving any spoilers away.

The skinny of it all is that visually, the game is great. You almost forget that you're playing a DS game because it doesn't look visually limited at all. All movement is done with the touch screen. The d-pad has the same functions as A,B,X,Y so that you can play regardless of if you're right or left handed. Once you get your sword you slash by making swiping motions with the stylus while tapping an enemy has you jump towards them and slash them if they're far away, and just stab them if they're close. The spin attack is done by making a circle with the stylus. You can also draw on the map to mark out destinations and points of interest. And at some times, it's required to make it through a certain point in the game. You will also travel in a boat again, only this time it's a steam boat. You use the touch screen to draw out your path from point A to point B. Along the way you will be faced with enemies who will put a barrier/wall in your path. How do you get past it you ask? You jump of course. That's about all I can mention so far. I havn't any projectile weapons or even made it very far. Makes it hard to realise what you have to do when you can't understand what everyone is saying.

Oh, and one other thing. The first thing you'll hear when you start a new game...? "Hey! Hey!". Yes, the fairy is back. Not Navi, but a fairy none the less. Unlike in TP where the fairy was nothing more than a pointer, this fairy actually speaks and is your companion. The fairy also acts as your "pointer" as it goes to whever on the screen you may be touching. Can't wait to buy the North American release this holiday season.

And they may ask exactly how you got to play it :p
They won't let you get off that easily. :p

I didn't feel like trying it out.. I'd get bored when playing the English version... I hate repeating things.

RE: Phantom Hourglass hands on - first impressions

It's only schedueled for around the Christmas season in NA. I'm kind of glad I got stuck at a certain part because if I just leave it now I'm not to far in and won't have to repeat much.
