A new Pro Evolution Soccer game is released every year, but not much changes in terms of game play. Usually the graphics are slightly better, and the game is updated with the latest football stars. So nothing ground breaking here. Well last year Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 was released on two next generation consoles, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. Sadly no Wii version was in sight. But soon enough Konami announced that a Wii version would be released in 2008.

After the early versions of the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 game came under a lot of criticism, Konami couldn't afford to leave the Wii title in the same position. The creator of the Pro Evolution series, Shingo Takatsuka, admitted that the PS3 version of the game was “so far from what we wanted".  The title also "stuttered" and was full of online issues. But now Konami has turned things around with the Wii version of the game. Reviewers are now claiming that "the Wii version of PES 2008 is by far the superior version". Instead of tacked on Wii controls Konami have taken the time to think about things, and it has paid off. Oh did I mention that the online functionality is outstanding?

If you are a fan of the series, do you plan on picking up the Wii version over the others?

I believe I read somewhere that the AU version isn't online, it doesn't have the wi-fi logo but all other regions do.

That also happened with Medal of Honor: Heroes 2.

Question, is this going to be called Winning Eleven 2008 in North America?

Ours is called PES 2008 but if it's the original name it would be Winning Eleven 11, but on in Japan is it called by that D:

This is good to hear even if I don't enjoy SOCCER. I believe the PS3 version was having major connection problems as well. It's nice to see something made around the Wii's controls and not just tacked on controls.

The game also uses the Wii remote fantastically, you now have ultimate control over all your players .

I bought it a couple days ago. It has a pretty steep learning curve but it's a lot of fun when you get the hang of it. I think I have finally changed from a FIFA to a PES person.

I'm neither this wii generation, they both fail but are decent on over consoles (Fifa '08 360 FTW).

It just seems really un-controlled like I was watching a review and one of things he said was 'twiddle the knunchuck to make the computer trigger a shot for you' I was like WTF The computer controls your shot power and angle?! The Fifa '08 Wii thing was just awkward...wave wiimote to shoot...HOW THE HELL CAN YOU CONTROL A SHOT LIKE THAT.

I'd like a button primary control system with twiddle for less important things.

I thought Fifa 08 controls were pretty decent on Wii.

Oh and just for the record, PES > Fifa.

No online for Australia, not good enough.
