well, Elebits isn't even out yet, so no, i can't do that. atleast not yet. it is on my list anyway so i'll get to it when it's out. i don't think Super Swing Golf is out either. if it is i'll honestly do that instead of NfS:C. i'm not a big racing gamer but did enjoy playing some golf games in the past including golf on Wii Sports

they both came out today Smile

RE: Quick Reviews

Didn't you find the controls locking up in CoD3 when a lot of action started happening? I am deeply disappointed with this game and would never have gave it such high marks like you did.

IMO

My message to anyone wanting to get this game is DON'T BUY IT!

*MOVED*

I like this idea, nice quick reviews in one thread. Its better for those who don't have the time or patience to read through long ones. But of course they must realise they'll get better reflections about a game in a longer review.

actually, my controls never locked. most that would happen would be the nunchuk not registering properly, but that's for most games on the Wii i've played. and it's not like the action isn't intense in the opening scenarios. firefight coming from everywhere most of the time. even 3 Panzers on the screen at once didn't affect it

and thank you LMX. nice to see my work is being appreciated by someone. you're right though. this isn't a review of the full game, so some things won't be as expansive. this is more so to give people an idea of what the game's basics are like.

EDIT to introduction of thread

RE: Quick Reviews

1.7 Kirby: Squeak Squad

finally i get to do an almost full review of a game which is good and bad news to the readers. good news: it's a full review. everything beaten. almost all secrets found (unless there's no reason to beat the unlockable Extra mode. bad news: i did it in the one day i played it. not a long game.

K:SS goes back to its roots with simple side scrolling action. the copying of abilities is back with a fairly wide range of abilities. there are even a few new ones such as the Animal which turns Kirby into a mole-like critter, and Magic which gives Kirby cheap parlor tricks to defeat his enemies. the new option of combining abilities while in Kirby's "stomach" doesn't really affect the game much. in fact, i only found 3 combinations. two of which use the sword ability plus another, and i tried alot of combinations. could just be bad luck i didn't find more though.

the gameplay and sound are exactly what you'd expect. the same cheerful music through the grass levels followed by suspensful music at the bosses (and i use the word suspenseful loosely). it may not be an approvement, but it does put you in that Kirby state of mind. normal actions like jumping, sucking up enemies and using your abilities are mapped to the face buttons. the shoulder buttons aren't even used and the only thing the touch screen does is let you choose what item in your stomach you want to use. it's pretty simplistic gameplay actually, which lets you enjoy the game more. the treasure chests scattered throughout the levels unlock everything from spraypaint to change Kirby's colors to music playback to extra attacks for your abilities. and yes, i collected all 120 of these chests in the day i had the game.

the mini/multiplayer games are easy to pick up on and seem to hold some replay if you have a friend to play with (which of course i did not like every other multiplayer on every game i've played recently). there's nothing really new to the game, but when did Kirby ever really need to be new? the gameplay is fun and simple so Nintendo's doing just fine by not fixing what ain't broken (let's see how many people i just offended with my abuse of the English language). don't expect weeks or even days of gameplay, but expect to enjoy what time you do put in.

thank you green. i've played alot of games in my days and read alot of reviews. as you've seen from some of my reviews already, i may not always be really into the game, but i still give it the same basis as the games i've been dying to play. if i wanted to make these reviews for myself i'd make my own website and only i would have access. this is for everyone and i hope everyone gets something out of it at some point if they haven't already.

anymore feedback from readers? and please feel free to rep if the review is especially helpful

i'll try to get around to Need for Speed: Carbon for you penguin, but it's gonna be kinda hard since i have to work 8 hours a day for the next 6 days. maybe i'll get lucky and get to keep it for more than a day. otherwise i'll just cheat and check it out a couple times to get a decent review for ya

Thanks, I'm looking forward to it. I'm not in a hurry to buy the game since I still have Zelda, then Red Steel to finish.

Good job on all your other reviews.

RE: Quick Reviews

1.8 Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz

i already know this is going to be one of my most controversial reviews, but what kind of reporter would i be if i just sat by and didn't speak out?

where to start...well, the story (if it can be considered that) is worthless from what i played of the game. some big monkey steals the little monkeys' bunch of golden bananas and you have to get it back. isn't this the theme of every game featuring primates? the graphics in the game aren't bad by any means. pretty much what you were expecting to see. the sound is, well, annoying mostly. the bouncy sounds followed by monkeys crying and screaming. the *boings* and such when you hit a wall. it's like watching a Saturday morning cartoon. so if you enjoy that kind of seriously outdated humor for cheap laughs, by all means, enjoy away.

now the big one: the controls and gameplay. i thought the controls were going to be extremely simplistic and would make gameplay oh so easy. i was completely wrong. trying to get your monkey to turn is no easy task by any means. i tried tilting the wii-mote as much as i possibly could, until it was facing down instead of up even, and the monkey just kinda turns. there are alot of sharp turns in the game, but to maneuver these you basically have to stop your monkey, turn, then continue. this task is even harder when the camera flat out hates you and wants you to lose. everytime i'd run into a wall and bounce off, the camera would assume i'm trying to go the other way so would look straight at the monkey head on. when i would try to get the monkey to roll towards the camera now, the camera would try to find a path around but would end up making the monkey roll in odd ways since the camera is flying around the monkey. obviously, i would try to compensate by tilting the wii-mote in the new "forward" which soon wasn't forward. the monkey would just start rolling in all directions and would take up to 10 seconds to get everything going the right way. 10 seconds is a long time when you have 60 sec to complete the course and 30-50 is already being spent completing the course with normal circumstances.

next is the mutliplayer. this really just seems to be what you'd expect from any Wii game with multiplayer. i won't be surprised in the slightest if Mario Party has the same mini-games. i've heard alot of people say the mini-games were the highlight of Monkey Ball. this wasn't the case for me at all. in basically every game, none of the motions would be executed well. again, the monkey would often just move around in random patterns. there are several games which have you point the cursor to move a cursor or move the monkey. even in these, to make the monkey move up the screen, you have to move the wii-mote in and out. why can't i just point higher up on the screen to make the monkey move up?

it's possible i just really suck at the whole tilt function of the Wii (even though i played other games that roll a ball with the tilt and had little trouble), but this game simply aggravated me to extremes. i definitely do not recommend this game to anyone who doesn't have the patience level of a brain surgeon.

RE: Quick Reviews

I'll post my CoD 3 impressions in here, probably should have the first time around.

I beat CoD 3 on a rental, and quite frankly I was glad for the game to end. It's not a bad game, but it has so many glitches that hinder the gameplay. For one, when you cursor offscreen, your character just spins rather than like in Zelda where it gives you a message saying point at screen. Also, the box that you have to freely aim without causing the character to look is tiny, zelda gives you a good portion of the middle, CoD gives you almost nothing (I guess it's for sniping, but it'd work much better if they bumped the size up to about half of Zelda's. I've had many instances of going prone on a hill, and my character shimmies to the lowest point, totally blowing my cover. For this and a few other reasons, I had to switch the difficulty down, because I was dieing for reasons other than I wasn't playing smart. I don't know if this affects the AI, cause it was some of the worst AI I've seen in a game. My teamates constantly ran in front of me while I was shooting/aiming. The germans ("jerrys") infinitely reappear until you bum rush their hold-ups (wow, genious move, Rambo everything!). The hit detection was a little off at times, germans would be protected by invisible extensions of tables and walls. Those were my biggest issues with the game, but it was still a mostly fun game, maybe about 6.5-7/10. The last stage kicked but.

If you like WWII shooters, it's more of the same. Pretty fun single player, but I enjoyed Big Red One more probably, mainly due to the control of 3 needing a bit of tweaking. I do love the pointing system though. Bum rushing houses was never so easy. Love the "trench broom" -- thompson.
-------------------------------------------
My advice, if your interested at all, rent it.

Red Steel

Okay everybody thought this was going to be awesome and all. It had some really crappy graphics. When there were cutscenes, it had moving pictures -_- I mean come on they were talking! xD The guns sounded okay and so did the background music. Eh, the sword fights made the game more interesting but the controls were a little sticky. It will probably improve later because the Wii is a new system. Turning the gun sideways is funny too; shooting it gansta. xD I liked that they put multiplayer in the game; killing my friends with an uzi is always fun. Thats probably the only reason I'm playing Red Steel right now. The story is a cheesy but it works. If you like this kind of rescue shooter then go for it, but I say wait for the second one.

RE: Quick Reviews

1.9 Super Swing Golf

Here's the game for all of you who really enjoyed the golfing of Wii Sports, sort of...

The story of the game is pretty simple. Your character (male or female) plays golf. Go around this weird island and play golf against people. Earn Pangya Points to buy new clothes, clubs, balls, caddies, or increase stats. Think Mario Tennis for the Game Boy Color.

The graphics of Super Swing Golf are actually pretty good. They really create the cartoony world I'm assuming the makers were going for. The sound follows right behind with the typical "MWAH Mwah mwaaaah" type of music after losing, triumphant fanfare after winning, and a quirky voice shouting "Pangya" when you perform a perfect swing. This actually doesn't happen very often which leads me to the gameplay.

The gameplay frankly is hard. The guide of how far your ball will go when the power gauge is to a certain point really isn't accurate. An example would be that my ball is in the rough which reduces the power of my swing to 95%. I hit the ball at the power level that would regularly send the ball 100 yards. So how far does my ball go? 70-80 yards. It's been awhile since I've had calculus, but 70-80 is not 95% of 100, and the small margin I was off from a perfect swing shouldn't have mattered that much if that were the case. Of course, making a perfect swing is practically impossible. There were only three instances I could make a "Pangya swing." 1) I was using the button controls instead of motion controls. 2) I only used my wrist to swing instead of my whole body. or 3) i kept my arm perfectly straight, moved it above my head and swung through more like a huge bowling motion than a golf swing. Imagine how the discuss throwers look on those old Roman vases. Practically blew out my shoulder after the 3rd try. Golfers naturally move their wrist with the follow through. This is registered to the game as an immense hook to the left. I didn't have this problem with Wii Sports's golf.

Aside from the horrible motion sensing control, this is actually a good golfing game. The customization of the characters isn't bad when it comes to abilities, but the clothing is something to be desired (literally. Why are the shorts for the boy so friggin' short? It's just weird. Then there's the way too small bikini for the girl.) Some tweaking with the controls and better character designs could lead to a great sequel.

RE: Quick Reviews

1.10 Trauma Center: Second Opinion

Some people will already know that I wasn't too happy with Trauma Center: Second Opinion being an almost direct port of the DS title, but I will say this flat out: this is one of the best titles for the Wii.

The graphics and sound aren't the best in the world. The still frames of the characters moving slightly while words come up across the bottom was fine for a DS game, but is it really so hard to have voice acting on a game for a Nintendo console? Not that there's no voice acting. The main character does repeat the phrase "Let's begin the operation," sever times. It may be just me, but I liked the character designs for the DS game better as well. They just look abstract on the Wii version. The look of the innards of the patients works well though. It's not a highly detailed view, but this is rated Teen, not Mature. It also helps you focus on your objective. Lots of detailed organs and such would distract your concentration as well as make it hard to tell where the irregularity is in the area.

The story is pretty simple in the beginning. You play a doctor who saves people from various diseases and such. As the game progresses though, you realize that a certain group of people are releasing extremely hazordous viruses, known as G.U.I.L.T. into the public. These GUILT missions are really the highlight of the game. For the most part, the characters don't really know how to defeat the GUILT, which makes you think a bit. Sure you could start hacking away with the scalpel, but then you've got cuts all over the patient's heart or lung. The surgeon's aide does offer helpful advice as a sort of guide to what you should do next though. The gameplay also gets quite hectic with these GUILT missions as the virus has a natural will to continue living. It sometimes even changes its normal behavior making you come up with a new technique. The actually gaming is pretty easy to pickup, atleast it was for me, but that could be due to playing the original title. Although I could see how it might be difficult for a new player to adjust. I myself couldn't even figure out how to work the difibrulator paddles for a good 30 seconds. The game does get seriously addicting though. At times I just couldn't stop playing because I wanted to complete a task. The added missions add some new mechanics to the gameplay as well. In the first additional operation, you must rotate the Wii-mote to rotate pieces of bone in a man's shattered arm. The controls aren't quite as hard as i was expecting either. Many times I would miss suturing a wound in the DS version because it wasn't goof enough. I never slipped up on suture with the Wii version, though I was playing the game on Easy difficulty.

This is a great iteration of the DS version, which itself was a great title. I definitely recommend this title to any Wii owner and expect an excellent sequel for the Wii soon.
