Reggie promises online community "unique to Nintendo"
If you're looking for a huge online community filled with gamers searching for new people to play over the internet with, exchange data and general interaction with others who own the same console as you, The Wii is probably not the best console to go with. At least in terms of using the actual console for these purposes.
Speaking in Forbes, Nintendo of America Presiden Reggie Fils-Aime tells us that Nintendo has always had a vision of an online community.
Reggie Wrote:
The issue is that we define community differently than our competitors... Our consumers do want a sense of community, and we're going to deliver that -- but in a way that's unique to Nintendo
But many will ask: what could they do? Well for starters, they could bring their community up to code like the other consoles. And then branch out from there. Either way, you can't ever predict what Nintendo is going to do next.

Community. Right.
Because I want to identify my friends by a freaking number and not by a name.
Die, Reggie.
I hope you realize he's talking about a future community and not the state of it now? For all we know Nintendo could, in fact, developer a better community than the other consoles.
Sure, I doubt it will be good but I'm not being totally pessimistic. I'll be totally pessimistic when Shigsy leaves.

Don't forget that they got rid of the n-sider forums when they redid the website. Yeah. It sure makes sense to get rid of their only, and biggest community when a console that needs that more than anything is out.
I'm highly doubtful Nintendo can redeem themselves. They screwed up, and the promises leaving Reggie mean nothing.

I like the uniqueness thing. Let's just hope it's for the better rather than the worse.

That's just the road if you ask me. Believing Reggie is the unfinished concrete.

Even though Friend Codes are fairly new as they came in with Nintendo's online service (if you could call it that. Well, it's free, so yes), they already feel primitive.
