Roll call suspended, Obama wins by acclamation
At Day three of the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado, the roll call took place as scheduled. The turning point of the action came when New Mexico yielded its votes to Illinois, who then yielded them to New York. Hillary Rodham Clinton then made her way to the microphone and motioned that the roll call be suspended, and to nominate Barack Obama as the Democratic candidate by acclamation.
People began to chant her name.
DNC chair Nancy Pelosi repeated the motion as "in the spirit of unity."
She asked if there was a second.
The whole arena erupted into a cheer.
She asked for all in favor to please say "aye."
Again, an eruption of cheers.
If there were any "nays," I don't think they would have mattered for much.
And with that, Obama has secured the nomination by acclamation, and the delegates began to cheer and dance while "Love Train" played over the speakers.
Congratulations, Senator Obama. The job is only half-finished, though, but I know that we can get it done. YES. WE. CAN.

RE: Roll call suspended, Obama wins by acclamation
Sorry to double-post on my own thread, but what makes this nomination even more amazing is that Barack Obama will accept it today, August 28, exactly 45 years after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech.
Dr. King would be proud to see this day happen. His dream has become a reality.

The key speeches were really good, I really like Hilary's and i think it did what it needed to do, which is united her supporters for Obama. Biden's was a really good heart felt story.

That's a good move on his part. He had to do something unexpected after Obama's phenomenal speech. Picking a woman as his running mate was the logical step.
