SPOTLIGHT ON: Medal of Honor: Vanguard

Medal of Honor: Vanguard marks the first Medal of Honor game to appear on the Nintendo Wii system. This version may be identical to its Playstation 2 counterpart in terms of gameplay, but of course uses the Wii Remote to add certain actions. Flicking the Nunchuk to the left will turn your character 180 degrees, a flick to the right performs a reload, and the standard toss of the Wii Remote tosses a grenade. There's nothing too new to that aspect. There are some new things added to the gesture lot. Most notably would be the parachuting scenes. Check the video link below to see how it works out. It's kind of hard to explain in words.
Videos from IGN
The gameplay is pretty typical from the Medal of Honor series. Enemies scamper about unloading countless rounds into the scenery and your allies. The AI isn't the best though. Your comrades are shot rather regularly and don't return fire with the same accuracy, which leaves you to take on the majority of the forces. Fortunately, the AI issue is spread to the Nazis as well. Opposing troops will march in front of open windows.
The visuals are done rather well for the Wii, when you can see them. At some points it appears the developers just made the area extremely dark to cover up imperfections. On the other hand, your reticle blends in a little too well with the skyline. This makes taking out snipers a little difficult. The sound is one of the better aspects of the game. The musical scores are representative of the era.
While it may not offer many new aspects, those featured in Medal of Honor: Vanguard are done solidly. Reviews for the game haven't been outstanding, but they do hold up.

i'm still undecided about this game. I was going to buy it...then I read about the bad A.I. and other problems. But then again the same things were said about Red Steel and I fully enjoyed that game...who knows?
nice SLO by the way Nomad

What sits in a tree, weighs six ounces and is very dangerous? A Sparrow with a Machine Gun!

RE: SPOTLIGHT ON: Medal of Honor: Vanguard
I rented it when it came out.
It's worth a rent, but i wouldn't straight up buy it.
It's got it good points, but the controls have some problems, like my reticule will often jump to the bottom of the screen and spin me around a couple times before I re-align. To make it better make sure you turn on the "constrain view" option and when you get stuck, center your hand on the screen and press down on the D-pad, which is supposed to straighten you out. Sometimes works sometimes not. If it doesn't try pausing and unpausing the game.
Multiplayer is decent, but suffers the same view problem, even more frustrating for friends not familiar with the game and who can be taken advantage of when stuck. The one player is pretty fun, but not nearly long enough. I beat it in a week, in casual sessions.
I haven't tried Call of Duty, but after this lesser FPS experience it makes me really appreciate Red Steel for the tighter (but not perfect) controls, good length and fun multiplayer. Makes me look forward to the sequel where they hopefully expand on all the good aspects..

with the different reviews i've read, including this inside look from driveby, i'd say CoD3 is the better game. the controls aren't the best, but do sound tighter than MoH:V. the AI would probably be the best difference. CoD3's enemies actually hide until you walk by then unload on you. while not cool while it's happening, it does make for a more realistic experience

Yeah, maybe I'll have to try out CoD3. I just resisted at first since the mulitplayer didnt have much (from what I've heard), and that's my favorite thing for FPS games - to play with friends.
That's another thing about MoHV - after a while I just started running up to the enemies and shooting them from the side when they were hiding behind boxes, and they would take a while before they noticed me. In other words, not too bright.
