Some (potentially) Dumb But Nonetheless Valid Questions About PS3 Operation
Just a few quickies here:
1) I notice that when I download things, they appear on my download list and if I press X on them again, they will DL again. And again. And again. Where are these multiples downloading to? Are they just overwriting over and over? Also, why does SOME stuff show up on the XMB, and other stuff not? For instance, I just downloaded the LBP Nariko and Kratos costumes. Under Game Data Utility is shows a file (which is about 20% the size of all of the LBP DLC combined...weird...) titled "LittleBigPlanet Downloadable content". On the other hand, I have PAIN downloaded (came free with the MGS4 bundle) but the Fun With Explosives DLC that was free on the PS Store does NOT show up there. What gives?
2) On a similar note to #1, is there any way I can view the contents of my system's HDD in one place? Just, you know, see all of the files saved to it in folders and what not? Any sort of interface like Explorer works in Windows, etc. will do...
3) Sharing downloads...how in the hell does that work?
4) I want to set my fiance up with a PSN account, but want her to be able to use all of the DLC I downloaded with my account, too. What's the best way to go about doing this? I've heard something about sub-accounts...how do those work? Useful? Stupid? How do I set one of those up?
[edit] 5) Does the "Download List" ever get cleared, or will it keep my entire download history forever? It's a handy reference for knowing what I have and have not downloaded. [/edit]
Is it just me, or does Sony want to try to make their big black monolith a mystery to the end user? The manuals it came with are ZERO help with anything beyond "This is the power button!" things are hidden, and the UI is awfully convoluted... I'm sure I'll add more questions as time goes on
Thanks in advance!

I invested $500, thank you very much And I did want blu-ray Clearly you fail to read any of my other threads in which I state "I like my 360 more than my PS3" BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT! THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO NEED FOR FANBOYISM IN MY THREAD! I AM A PSWII60 OWNER, I CARE NOT ABOUT COMPANY AFFILIATIONS! OKAY, I'M GONNA STOP USING CAPS FOR EMPHASIS!
I do like my PS3, and I have some questions about it. I do not like SONY for making this so bloody difficult on me (I will say though, it IS a LOT easier to do the things I'm asking about on my Xbox. Just sayin. Maybe SONY should look M$'s way)

1. i think the devs have free reign as to how they want their content stored on the console.
2. never tried.
3. theres a stickied thread for it. it looks shady as hell though.
4. no idea.

I believe everyone gets the DLC without having a PSN account. Does she have a user account on the PS3? I believe she gets all the DLC (demos, videos and stuff all showed up on all my user accounts)
Help bring Tatsunoko vs Capcom to us!

1. Really? That's annoying...Gotta say, though some people hate on M$ for laying down ground rules/restrictions for devs, it certainly makes life easier for the end user...Anyway, I hope it's just overwriting or something, cuz I've accidentally downloaded the same things a few times and I don't know how to access it to delete it and free up space.
2. All the cool kids are doing it
3. Oh? Never noticed. Does it say how to do it? I'm curious...
4. Aww

She does have a user account on the PS3 itself, and she can play PAIN (it's the only game I have downloaded to the system) so I guess you're right. I just wanted to check because I want to get her online--she's WAY excited about LBP and I want her to be able to check out the most important aspect, the online community.
Also, a fifth question: does the "Download List" attached to your PSN ID ever get cleared, or is all of that back info here to stay? Because given the way the interface is set up, I can never tell what DLC I have or don't have unless I check that list. If it weren't so cumbersome I'd be inclined to call it handy

RE: Some (potentially) Dumb But Nonetheless Valid Questions About PS3 Operation
1) I'm not exactly sure about this question but I think that it will overwrite what was already previously downloaded if it is the same.
2) I don't believe so unless you actually hooked your hdd up to a computer and then you'd be able to do it.
3) I'll update the sharing thread that is pinned in this section. I have done so many times and it's great! I had that thread updated but it was lost in the server crash.
4) As long as she is playing on the same PS3 as yourself then there is no need to do anything. All the DLC you have will also be available to her. The only thing that won't be shared is the save file.
5) As far as I know the download list never gets cleared and never will because you would have to use it if you reformatted or installed a new hdd so that you could download everything you've downloaded before again using it.
