Steam now offers gamers DLC.

Quote:
March 16, 2009 — Valve, creators of best-selling entertainment products and advanced technologies, today announced the arrival of in-game downloadable content to Steam, their massively popular PC gaming platform. In-game DLC allows developers and publishers to use their own games as a platform for selling additional content to gamers.

Well you guys know how I feel about DLC.
Thankfully 80% of the Steam community shares my feelings. (lawl.. statistics)
I hope the shitstorm will cause the devs to be reminded where they stand.

In a storm.
Of s***.

RE: Steam now offers gamers DLC.

As long as DLC is actually additional content and not just crap that should have been added into the final release, then I'm happy with DLC.

RE: Steam now offers gamers DLC.

I've coined a new term.
DLE. DownLoadable Expansion: DLE is an expansion to a game, equivalent to a retail PC expansion, only for consoles. (and now PCs in place of retail expansions.)
See: Lost and Damned(GTA4),
Battlefield 2142: Northern Strike (new game modes, new maps, new vechicles, new weapons)

I am perfectly happy with expansions.

DLC. Discontinued Launch Content:
Stuff that should have been in the game to begin with but devs forcefully pulled out near launch to get people to pay extra for it later, or already is in the game, but devs force you to pay to unlock.
See: RE5 (versus mode)(this would have been acceptable as DLE had it not been announced the night of the game's release. Makes it obvious they could have easily been part of the game in the first place),
Street Fighter 4 (costumes)(The code for the costumes are already in the game.. you're just paying to be allowed to access them.)

DLC can go to hell.
