The Conduit

Platform
Wii
Release Date
Q1 2009 (?)
Number of Players
Offline- 1
Online- Up to 16

Plot
In the not-so-distant future, Watchington, D.C. has been hit by supernatural and tragedies. "The Bug", a mysterious flu-like virus takes the area, which left high-security locations being deserted as the government workers stay home in an attempt to avoid catching "The Bug". Months after the first outbreak, a terrorist attack destroyed part of the Washington Monument, and only after mere weeks later, on September 11th, a presidential candidate was assassinated by another alleged terrorist disguised as a Secret Service detail, this in turn heightened local and national tensions.

Following that, Trust, a secretive organization realizes that the capital has become the epicenter for an extraterrestrial attack by an alien race known as Drudge. "John Adams", the commander of the Trust, directs a newly inducted Trust agent with the codename "Mr. Ford" to infiltrate the area and learn the reason for the attack. Along the way, Mr. Ford must take on the Drudge, virus-infected humans, as well as a group of rogue Trust agents led by a man naming himself "Prometheus". In the end, Mr. Ford will discover the truth behind this conspiracy.

Gameplay
The Conduit's controls were inspired by Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, first person shooters that has well-received controls. The Conduit will allow players to use customizable control features, like to alter the size of the bounding box, the speed of the camera movement, and cursor sensitivity. Also, the player can adjust these options in real time, without having to leave the adjustment screen to try changes. The developer has also included the ability for the player to completely remap the function of any button or motion on the Wii remote. Other aspects involve player's running speed and the HUD layout.

A unique point of the game is a tool named "All-Seeing Eye" [ASE], an item gained early in the game, this will be featured to solve puzzles. The ASE can detect hidden mines, or reveal secret features in the environment that will allow players to move forward.

Enemies of The Conduit, the Drudge, also use various devices to defeat or hinder the player. One of these items is the Drudge portal, or Conduit, which are places throughout a level and spawn Drudge until they are destroyed by the player. Other devices such as the "Regenerator Unit" and "Pulse Box" will appear appear in the game, but their uses are yet to be revealed. The Drudge have advanced artificial intelligence thanks to the game's Quantum3 engine, allowing them to adopt unusual strategies in combat, like running away when they are outmatched.

Multiplayer
The Conduit will feature at least three competitive multiplayer modes for online play, including Deathmatch and Capture the Flag modes. Split-screen multiplayer will not be featured, but the development team is working on LAN support.

Online will feature up to 16 players simultaneously. Also, online voice chat will be included as a part of the multiplayer through the WiiSpeak peripheral. The Conduit will be the first third-party game to use this accessory.

I wish there was more info on it. Like a solid release date and a producer.

RE: The Conduit

The only thing I'm disappointed about is no split-screen, geez, what ever happened to games I can play with friends in the same room on the same console and TV.

Other than that, this game looks tasty!

RE: The Conduit

Kas, I don't think split-screen would work with this game. Remember who the console's target audience is. They probably don't have large, HD televisions like some other families do, and they probably own either a 360 or PS3.

RE: The Conduit

That's true. But even two player split screen wouldn't have hurt. For co-op love. Perfect Dark and Goldeneye managed it on the N64.

Anyway, this game is still of some interest.

Yes, but you aren't using a stick to aim; that's basically why the television size thing matters. In my opinion, anyway.

Well IGN said they were meeting with big publishers during E3, so maybe they're still trying to decide what's best for them. Like Kindrik mentioned on skype, it would be perfect for EA to publish it. Nice job Dume Smile

One of the things I can say about Red Steel is that regardless of its controls it still had good 4 player split-screen. Depending on how the screen is split you just have to adjust the speed of the pointer.

For example the guy in the bottom left wouldn't need to point in his tiny box there and could use the whole screen like if he was playing alone. Pointing to the middle of the TV would put the pointer in the middle of his box.

Using EA Nation for the online multiplayer would be perfect. We'd avoid friend codes and EA has shown they can get it done with Medal of Honor: Heroes 2. If not exactly EA, hopefully whoever they go with will do something to that effect.

RE: The Conduit

This reminds me of those SPOTLIGHT ON things that we used to do back in the dark ages Wink

Yeah I'm really excited about this game. EA Nation would work really well for this game.

RE: The Conduit

NO! Because then PAL wouldn't get online multiplayer and I wouldn't buy this game. Get EA the f*** outta here.

RE: The Conduit

I've heard rumblings that Nintendo may be the ones publishing. Would this be good or bad news?

RE: The Conduit

Depends. Nintendo has shown that it can make decent online play (MKWii). I figure the only thing wrong with Nintendo publishing it is that it's almost guaranteed to use friend codes.

RE: The Conduit

What makes you say "almost"? This is Nintendo we're talking about. The same company that came up with WiiSpeak.

RE: The Conduit

WiiSpeak is exactly what I'm talking about. That was something that many people didn't really expect. Nintendo always surprises for better or for worse.

RE: The Conduit

In this case it's worse because when I mentioned WiiSpeak up there I was referring to as the damned "let's be overly protective" attitude Nintendo has. I'm not at all convinced that WiiSpeak is going to be all that great for shooters like The Conduit, or that it would be a good thing for late night gaming where you've got to be really quiet.

I want to try the thing first before I get excited.

RE: The Conduit

From the looks of things, they only thing we really need to be worried about is the online multiplayer. I only wish that someone could test out the servers to see how it works. But I'm not too worried about that cause they've got 8 months or so to work on the multiplayer.

I would be shooting people in the face from 2 feet away and they wouldn't die.
