No, the opposite of a spin-off (i.e. the main franchise). Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, God of War, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Halo are all examples of IPs.

No... not exactly. New IP means a new series. Think of IP as being synonymous with the word "series".

Just.. a new game.
Doesn't really need to be a series considering it can only be one game.

RE: The Legend of Zelda: Serenity's Edge

this idea is absolutley fantastic. its orgasmic. all u have to put is the idea below and i think the game would be more accepted. but yes, definately pitch it to nintendo, u have nothing to lose. just make sure theres no way of them stealing it. o btw this would be at the end of the game.

and as link touched the shard he heard a familiar voice yell aloud, “to commemorate the passing, of Princess Zelda.” He took one look at his surroundings and was in utter awe. interrupting his thoughts he heard, “Her life was cut unfairly short…she was ruthlessly murdered and it grieves me to say that it was in my presence and I was not able to do anything to prevent it…or stop the murderer, who quickly escaped. But not without me seeing his face…It was the Kokiri boy…the one who disappeared long ago after he committed great treason against his country…He has returned …However, before we move on to that matter, let us bow our heads and pray to the goddess’ to deliver Princess Zelda safely to the other world.”

now about that shard thing in the first sentence, use ur imagination. and about him returning to the beginning of the game, its cause of the shard. now after he hears ganondorf talking he changes his way and instead of using his wild insticts he does something else. of course this idea would be much better because link does not keep his bad reputation of killing people and blah blah blah. so take this as u will, just tell me if it helps or not.

RE: The Legend of Zelda: Serenity's Edge

If you want to successfully pitch your idea you need to do it in a format that is enveloping. The novel format doesn't translate to a game as much as you might think. It gives great detail, but all it can achieve is visual interpretation through cinematic scenes. If you are really looking for this idea to grow, the story should feature innovative puzzles and trials that reinvent the classic items from the Zelda games. concept art and other elements are needed to help the creaters envision the story for a video game. That's saying that they would accept a fan creation in the first place as a game plot.

Hey, that is truly a great beginning, And I do like the idea of a fan fic or an IP, I think it would turn out well.

RE: The Legend of Zelda: Serenity's Edge

okay first of all:

in order to pitch the game to nintendo, u need to write all the gameplay moves out, how they would be done using the controller (not possible to do this right now if ur making it for the next console), have a list of all characters (NPC's included), A LOT of concept art, write the rest of the game as a story, tell what all the weapons would be, etc.

AND MAINLY MAKE SURE U STICK TO THE ZELDA STUFF (dont go away from the main concept of saving zelda, defeating ganondorf, etc.)

truthfully, if u could do all the stuff i just listed and make the game sound good enough, i think you have a chance to have it made. but i really doubt you would want to do all of this and have the possibility of not getting it made. i just dont think you would do all that stuff i listed. good luck though!

(btw, I will give u unlimited rep if u can make this game and do all the stuff i listed then send it to nintendo. u must put all the stuff u do online somehow though before i will believe u did it)

GOOD LUCK

Good idea or not, does Nintendo accept unsolicited ideas for new games?

This is exactly the problem.  I'm almost positive that Nintendo (and virtually all major companies) will not accept unsolicited ideas for legal reasons.

EDIT:  However, this work shouldn't go to waste.  Perhaps we should pick ideas to create a fan made Zelda story, without a game.

Plus, like with virtually any other industry, you have to pay your dues first. Rarely does it ever happen that someone sends something to someone unsolicited and BOOM it gets made. An example where that did work out is Tim and Erics Awesome Show Great Job--and look at that.... the main reason, yes, is for legal reasons, but probably also practical ones. Any yahoo can send someone a demo or idea. Takes a lot of man power to sift through that.

A guy I'm currently dating works for a division of Squarenix. His boss recently sat him down and said that he was destined for great things in the company, that he was somewhat of a "rockstar" programmer....it has taken him over two years of 80+ work hour weeks to achieve any kind of accolades. His two closest friends are game designers, and in our inner circle are also testers, naturally....you would think at this point, with all the friends we know and resources we have, that someone would listen to a pitch, an idea, anything.  But no, not so. They're currently struggling to get the funds to program, develop, and release something basic to sell on XBOX 360. It will have to be self financed.

However as fanfiction goes, theres always that room to be as creative as you like, and use characters that would be limited otherwise. Keep writing!

I hate to be a wet blanket, but the odds are so slim that Nintendo will ever actually consider this, no matter how much you put into it, unless you actually work at Nintendo.

RE: The Legend of Zelda: Serenity's Edge

You have a really, really, good thing going on, but I'd support you making your own world instead of using an established franchise.

I did that with Avatar: The Last Airbender. (I don't watch the show, really, but I do like the world and basic idea. I did see it a couple times, and an idea just rolled into my head.
