Third Party Wii games that sold a Million copies

If Nintendo has kept one tradition going over the last 20 years, it would be good quality first party titles. Sometimes the standard is so high that 3rd party games are left in the dark. Who should we blame for this? Well...no one. Who could ever resist games like Zelda, Smash Bros and Mario? Well this list below shows off the seven third party Wii titles that have had enough appeal to reach the one million sales mark.

Red Steel
Copies sold: 1 Million
Ubisoft's ambitious effort to make a fun, action packed, first person shooter was seen as a failure by a lot of people. But no one can deny that this was a brave first attempt at nailing First Person controls. Managing to reach over one million sales was an achievement in its self; now hopefully Red Steel 2 will have just as much success and delivers the goods this time around.

Sonic and the Secret Rings
Copies Sold: 1.2 Million
Ever since the jump into 3d, it's a very rare occasion that we hear of a great Sonic game. Sonic titles all usually share the same flaws; bad level design, awkward controls and dodgy camera angles. But Sonic and the Secret Rings was actually a neat game that offers pretty graphics and fast speed game play, this title really does stand out from the crowd.

Carnival Games
Copies sold: 1.2 Million
Carnival Games has come under fire many times before by the hardcore crowd, but what no one can take away from this game is the fun factor. Since the release of this game it’s had massive success, selling over a million units is quite an accomplishment for such a simple game. This has Wii Sports fun written all over it.

Rayman Raving Rabbids
Copies sold: 1.2 Million
Rayman Raving Rabbids is almost a completely different title when compared to the typical Rayman game. Starring in the game are crazy deranged Rabbits that plan to take over the world. You must play through fun and frantic mini-games to escape from the furry little freaks. Sounds crazy? Well it is...

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
Copies sold: 1.6 Million
Back in 2005 Resident Evil 4 was a phenomenal success; now over two years later the game still holds up well. Despite Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition being a port, it's the ultimate version. Sharing both the stunning graphics from the Gamecube version and the added bonus content from the PlayStation 2 version. If you are a fan of blood, gore, and zombies then you probably already own this top-notch game.

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
Copies sold: 1.8 Million
The minute Activision announced that Guitar III: Legends of Rock would be on Wii, the crowd went wild. This was a pleasant surprise after Activision chose to leave the Gamecube out of the Guitar franchise last generation. Who doesn't love rockin' out to their favourite song with a plastic Guitar peripheral? The Guitar Hero franchise is constantly growing and will continue to be a huge success on Wii.

Mario and Sonic at the Olympics
Copies sold: 3.4 Million
Two of the biggest faces in the gaming industry go head to head at the Olympic games, how could this not be an instant hit? Since the games release, it has already sold over 3.4 million copies. With the help of Miyamoto, SEGA have actually created a decent game with Sonic in it. With such strong sales, this mini-game galore title is sure to have a sequel.

RE: Third Party Wii games that sold a Million copies

Sweet article! Best one I've seen in a long while. Smile

And I think it's great that these third parties all managed to hit the 1 million mark. Mario and Sonic really went wild on selling copies didn't it? And I would of thought that GHIII would have sold more...however it is multi platform so I'm guessing most people bought it for 360 and PS3. I think all the above deserve credit for hitting the 1 million mark...well except Carnival Games, and maybe Sonic and the Secret Rings.

I'm not surprised at all by carnival games, that one flies off the shelves.

I think it's odd that rockstar pingpong isn't up there though, because that one was immensely popular over xmas

Most of those are over hyped or have Mario or Sonic in the title.

RE: Third Party Wii games that sold a Million copies

Guitar Hero III sold more on other systems because the "target" audience of Nintendo won't be playing it anytime soon. The Midcore and Hardcore gamers playing the Wii bought those copies. Mario and Sonic at the Olympics isn't surprising. I enjoyed that game when I played it and thought it was pretty good. It's a great multiplayer game but forget about playing it alone. I have played Carnival as well and it's pretty ok if you like party games, which I do.

True, who could resist the likes of METROID, Zelda, Smash Bros or Mario.

Jesus. Where is the Metroid love?

Whoah wait... Metroid is a Nintendo franchise? Why yes... yes it is.
