Two Worlds

And objective opinion...

(disclaimer: these are my personal opinions and are not directed at anyone specifically, if you take offense to anything I say here... you SUCK)

1. If you bought 2 Worlds thinking "zomg Oblivion killer" that was your first mistake.

2. Graphics... Since when did we all become graphics-whores? Nice graphics are, well, nice to have in a game and honestly the graphics in 2 Worlds are not bad at all, and in fact they're quite good. No, they're not the 'best graphics EVAR' that most gamers these days seem to expect in every single new release, but I can see nothing wrong with them. Remember, this is a game where you could have dozens of fully modeled characters and enemies on the screen all at once without slow-down in a free-roaming world (not just one map at a time like in an FPS game). Mostly. I don't care what game you're playing, there will be a time when the game hiccups and skips a frame or two. So far for me that has only happened during multi-player with someone half-way across the globe. 2 Worlds also has little-to-no loading screens while in the game, and dozens of NPC people even in the smallest of villages, and a huge amount of detail in all of the areas.

Waaah it skipped a frame. Don't want to hear it.

3. Voice acting? This is a complaint I see often, but 99% of the time the same complaint is accompanied by a comparison with Oblivion (see point one). First of all, the voice acting in Oblivion was tolerable at best. Half of the time not even, and there were only a dozen voice actors. In 2 Worlds there are around 200 voice actors. Secondly, many of the people I see complain about voice acting are also making comments that make me think they have no clue what Olde English dialect is. As a matter of fact, one of the bad reviews I read even said "they're all talking in old english!" as if it was a bad thing. Another reviewer also complained that the voice actors use words like 'mayhap' and thought it wasn't even a real word. Now and then my character randomly says something (as I'm running around) that makes me go "wtf?", so I'm surely not saying the voice acting is faultless, but far from horrible.

4. Now let's talk gameplay. As you would guess, this is a big subject. Gameplay is the most important aspect of a game (yes, even more so than graphics, you whores!). The gameplay in 2 Worlds is definitely not perfect, but I have to say it's nothing near what most haters would like you to believe. As a matter of fact, it's quite good. The thing that probably scared most of the haters the most is the fact that this game doesn't baby you like Oblivion does. Even when you first start out, you could (and will) run into a monster strong enough to kill you in one hit. Probably pretty often, in fact. Most gamers these days are the "instant-gratification" breed. They've been trained by games in recent years (or for some: ever since they started gaming, for the younger gamers) to respond to instant gratification. "BOOM! Headshot!" While there will be times in 2 Worlds where you will pick off an enemy in 1 or 2 hits...you won't get that satisfaction for quite a while. This is not a bad thing, if you're a true hard-core RPG player like myself. It's totally up to you, the player, to decide what you should run from and what you can take head-on. Honestly, I prefer to make that decision myself, not have the code decide for me, but maybe that's just me? It does get aggravating at times, when a mere boar kills your level 7 Barbarian, but you just have to remind yourself that's the "instant-gratification" part of you speaking. In short, the gameplay is designed for a certain type of gamer. Those of us who don't need to be told "you can't attack those yet, you're not ready"... Those of us who grew up playing old-school D&D Wink

5. There is no fifth point! Go away!

Just kidding... Toungue ...This game is not at all bad, but--NOT for everyone. If you're even remotely curious if this is a game you would want to own, my advice is to play it for yourself and YOU be the judge.

There are plenty of used copies at EB/Gamestop, so crack open that wallet and go buy the used copy. Play it for a week... if you don't like it, return it for your money back! No risk involved and you'll still love yourself in the morning!

^^

RE: Two Worlds

You've put hope back in my heart for Two Worlds. All of this negativity took it off of my buy list, and even rent list but now I may try it again. Can you throw children off of castle walls?

RE: Two Worlds

I haven't seen any children yet, but I'm not very far into the single player campaign. There are a ton of quests to keep you busy even right off the bat, so I haven't even gotten far in the main storyline.

RE: Two Worlds

My main concern is, how's the multi-player?
I just want a game that I could play with my friends and do quests and the like. This sounded like a good oppertunity.

(I'd be going for the PC version, but i'm pretty sure it'll be alike, and do you know if it interacts with PC multiplayers?)

RE: Two Worlds

I don't know if the multi-player is cross-platform, but one of my friends and I play multi-player just about every chance we get and we like it. I don't recommend playing with random people though, because there are some out there that take advantage of certain attributes of the game that you can't quite call bugs or glitches. For instance, (and this hasn't happened to me personally, but I have heard) some people like to use the bow's disarm ability to relieve you of your weapon and then steal it. As well as other underhanded things. That's no fault of the game though, just bastard players.

RE: Two Worlds

omg. i just played the demo and o-m-g! it's terrible! the game does not skip a frame every now and then. it's always doing it! your character sprints the second you move the analog stick. theres no progression from standing, walking, jogging, to full bore running. he just hauls ass! the graphics really are terrible. voice acting is frickin hilarious! i urge everyone to play the demo just for the voice acting alone. i never laughed so much in a WRPG. combat is super weird. animations for the combat feel very robotic and stiff. yeah, im definitely passing this one up. the negatives just out-weight the positives. (i cant think of a positive)

oh, and the background music is hilarious too!!!
