He replays them, if they're under 3 minutes, then uses his tv capture card to put them on his computer.

Actually, it depends. My capture card has no drivers in vista, so I have to use a USB adapter (GameBridge). It is not as great. However, my TV has A/V outs, so I can play the games on my TV while recording them to my computer. Since it is only A/V though, I have to play in 480i when I'm recording, and it looks better on the recording if the screen is set to 4:3 (though my TV is 16:9). The last few games that I have been playing were played and recorded directly from the PC, which gave me a disadvantage as I was playing on a monitor through a recording program, which gave me additional lag and a lower framerate than if I had been using my TV.

On the matches I recorded that were under 3 minutes, it is because I saved the replays and recorded them when I played them back. I prefer using the former method as I can record live over 3 minutes, with character tags and such.
