Wii Storms Ahead of Gamecube!
What an amazing milestone Wii has met this week! The incredibly popular Nintendo console has sold 4,025,356 units in just 54 weeks in Japan, completely obliterating its predecessor Gamecube's total sales in that region.
After the disappointing sales of Gamecube, largely due to lack of third-party developer support, this is a well-deserved turnaround for the Japanese giant who practically wrote the book on home video gaming with its Nintendo Entertainment System console in 1985. Another factor in the demise of Gamecube came from its noticeable lack of advertising structures, even for killer-app titles like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Metroid Prime, yet this has been turned around significantly. You can hardly turn on a television set during prime time without seeing a commercial for a Wii game, or even Wii itself.
With this growing trend, I guess it's only a matter of time before Wii takes over Gamecube in sales worldwide.

It's nice to see, except the silly commercials of a father and son playing Super Mario Galaxy in the UK

From what I've seen, Australian TV is spared from crappy video game ads (face it, they all pretty much suck anyway) but the internet never is.

That's the one. I could never see anyone playing a hardcore game like that with their mom, let alone in a theatre in front of a bunch of other people unless they're really lame. I could probably get my mom in on Wii Sports but I know already that she'd be baffled by everything going on in Galaxy, even if she was only collecting star bits.

RE: Wii Storms Ahead of Gamecube!
Gamecube was the worst last gen console..well. I got one..but I used my Ps2 much more than it.
It was the worst..... technically. It had no 3rd party support, yet as a console it kicked PS2's ass graphically and horsepower....ally?
You are incorrect about this Clause. The PS2 was the least power of the system when compared to Gamecube and Xbox.
I would also point out that this isn't a huge feet. The Wii is doing amazing, but comparing it to the lackluster sales of the Gamecube is really an empty accomplishment. Gamecube did poorly because it had little 3rd party support, and now the Wii has excellent 3rd party support, but has very poor quality 3rd party games.

That is true, but considering Gamecube was on the market for a full five years it does seem like a bit of a feat eh?

NES=60 million sold world wide
SNES=49 million sold world wide
N64=32.93 million sold world wide
Gamecube=21.66 million sold world wide
So no I don't think beating the Gamecube's sales record is a huge feet, especially when it's the lowest selling console (hooking up to a television) that Nintendo has every made.
I'll add this-------------------------------
Once the Wii starts hitting those SNES sales numbers (which I think it will), then that will be when people should write numbers about it's sales accomplishments compared to other Nintendo systems.
