From what i've heard, Nintendo is being sued because this other company had a similar idea to the remote before Nintendo! And if this other company wins, the Wii is being taken off the market. (That sucks really big time for me!) sucky source

I can't read the article, as the site is blocked on my network, but seems like a hoax to me. You can't sue over something like that, unless it's a specific thing. Or so I think. Also, any company even remotely smallish doesn't stand a chance to Nintendo.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Even if the company that is supposedly suing Nintendo had any prior art and any claim to the Wii Remote design, the lawsuit would go on for years before any action could be taken. The court system, in the US anyway, is notoriously slow.

Also, Nintendo is a multinational company. Patents in America do not necessarily mean a patent in the Japanese market. It's complicated mess. In short, the Wii isn't going anywhere. And if it did, Sony would have to answer for it's six-axis controller.

This doesn't seem right. I agree that it has to be very specific to sue for. The item in question would have to be extremely similar, down to the speaker imbedded in the controller for this to work.

I guess the closest legal case that's happened like this was the BlackBerry (wireless email cell phone device) fiasco. Some company claimed to have a patent on the BlackBerry and sued RIM (BlackBerry makers). The lawsuit drug on for years and finally the companies agreed to settle for what ended up being a pittance compared to the amount BlackBerry made for RIM.

Nintendo has a legal team that would even make Microsoft cry. If this company chooses to pursue the matter in court, they better prepare for a very ugly, expensive and long battle.

Well...if this thing is gonna be taken to court, and last 5-10 years, then i'll be fine, cause i'm sure I getting the Wii in less than a year!

heres my thoughts. I have read everything about this suet ( click here to view ). I think it will get tossed out because one the only simularity between the wii mote and that are that they both work with light to reflect to control position. If anything the other company has stolen the idea from the original lightgun. This other remote has nothing else in common besides having a trigger button on the bottom ( the b button on the wii mote). The other remote works just like a tv remote except for the unit that receives the signal and processes it to the computer. The wii mote sends its signal directly to the wii for everything except position. The other remote has no g sensitivity angle sensitivity or anything like that. Its just a tv remote with an extra unit that processes the signal

Those are just my thoughts. I mean come on does anyone actually think that nintendo wouldnt look into something like this before making the greatest next gen console ever.

I still have a feeling that some of us who won't be getting a Wii by the end of the year will never ever ever get one!

Even if Nintendo lost this, the Wii would not be taken off the market, Nintendo would just have to pay a fee for every remote sold which may or may not mean a higher price on the remote.

Also, I wouldn't worry too much about this. The people sueing seem to be all talk. Their demands are pretty rediculous, all the way for getting paid 3 times the damages to having Nintendo pay for the court and lawyer fees (which would never happen since they're the ones taking Nintendo to court).

Yea, I agree with one of the guys above me, Nintendo's legal team could make the guy who defended OJ cry =). They have no chance, even if this had a legitimate chance, they would have to prove that Nintendo deliberatelly and purposely completely stole the idea from them. That is extremely hard to accomplish. It's just another small company looking to make money in any form possible.

I can see it now... someone's gonna sue Sony because the coffee from their PS3 burned the hell out of their lap (the PS3 makes coffee, right? I know it makes paninis...)

There is no chance of you not getting a Wii if you seriously plan on buying one. By the time this comes to settlement, if it even does, we'll be looking into next gen.

Exactley is what I was thinking, becauses usualy something new comes out every 4-5 years, and this might last 5-10 years!

I completely believe that this is a total and utter waste of time. Nothing is going to come out of this, and I agree with one of the other guys. Once this finally gets settled the next-next gen will be here. (I'm looking at you Wagina.)
