Windows 7 not binary compatible with previous versions of windows.

The upcoming Windows 7 is going to be a huge departure from previous versions of windows.

Firstly it's all going to be fully componentized. Essentially it's going to be a lot more stable and you'll be able to have exactly what you want on your PC.

Secondly, it will not natively run any WinAPI based apps (That's all of the ones available today). This means there's going to be a massive performance boost in the next version because it basically won't have to compensate for old code. Luckily they are planning to put an emulation layer in á la MacOS X that will abstract all of the Win7API features into that of the WinAPI features so if it's done well it won't be much slower than the Win32 Thunker in Vista-64
