Windows movie maker

whenever I am splitting a .mpeg clip, it seems like the more I start splitting it, when I play the clip at the beginning of the split, it doesn't actually start playing until about 5 seconds into it (it stays frozen for 5 seconds). so I transcoded the .mpeg to .avi, thinking that it may be the huge .mpeg file causing the freezing, but whenever I try to import the new .avi files into WMM, it stops working and has to close every time. so is there anyway to keep the .mpeg file from freezing like that, or to import the .avi without WMM crashing?

RE: Windows movie maker

The only explanation is that Windows Media Maker sucks, and is incredibly buggy, and incompatible with almost all types of files not encoded in wmv.
