Call of Duty 3
ESRB: T for Teen
For the Nintendo Wii

Throughout World War 2 there were many climatic battles but one of the greatest would have to be Operation Overlord (D-day and the events to follow) which was the operation to liberate France, and the main focus of Call of Duty 3. You start the game playing as a Private in a U.S Division and continue on to fight as many different soldiers in Canadian Divisions, British, and Polish. All of which take you too many different locations throughout France right up to liberating Paris.

Call of Duty 3’s story is well thought out and well researched. They take you through realistic battles. The addition of the French resistance fits in smoothly and when portraying the Normandy break out, well there a must have. Through a nice set of cut-scenes (which are very beautiful) the story is molded, during the cut-scenes for one moment you’ll be seeing the ending of your Polish mission which then switches to the Americans again and does so very well. The stories of the soldiers are interesting and will make you want to know more about the soldiers around you, and it’s sad when one of them gets killed. Call of Duty 3 does a very good job in keeping war real with there Story, as in one level you think it’s over when BANG! Not so fast, you’ve got to hold off the Germans until your buddies show up! So they keep some suspense in there to spice things up.

Visually this game doesn’t stand out against its counter parts on the 360 and PS3 but is probably one of the best looking on the Wii. The cut scenes are amazing, the characters look great! I definitely love watching each cut scene after and before the missions, each one boast great visuals. The in game graphics are pretty good, one thing that I personally love watching every time is, the smoke bombs. The smoke looks incredible! I never get tired of watching the bombs explode, definitely a good part on the graphics. Plus the almost completely destructible environments look very nice especially when you destroy something; wood breaking looks very nice and helps a lot as you can destroy cover to get at the Nazis. Deaths look great too, it looks awesome when you blow a guy right into the sky with a grenade, plus they land normally, no bodies lying half out windows, they’ll actually fall out and land like someone would.

Call of Duty 3 has definitely done well with its control scheme. It takes the gameplay to a whole new level. It feels good and doesn’t take long to get used to. Plus one thing which I personally love is the melee fights. You have to hold the Wii-mote and nunchuk up on there sides and push forward and back rapidly to beat your opponent and they will often add something else in to add to the intensity. It definitely adds a nice layer to the gameplay.
Now as far as the normal gameplay goes, it plays just like you’d come to expect from a Call of Duty game (except new controls). So like the other games in the series, it delivers solid gameplay. Like tank battles, I normally dislike tank battles but I actually liked them in Call of Duty 3, it just felt right, with the Wii-mote and was a lot of fun to gun down enemy Panzers.
Another cool new aspect was the driving, which felt ok but could’ve been a little better, you held the controllers upright and turned them like you would a steering wheel.
Of course once you get used to it its fine but I definitely feel like that aspect could’ve been improved.

The sound in this game is great. The guns sound realistic and the explosions are well done too. Hearing the wood break when you shoot it and the Mg’s open up on you are sounds that I personally loved. I think they incorporated the sounds very well in this one and I loved listening to them.
The music was good too, it got intense at the right moments and settled down at the right times. I loved it because it really brought me into it. Normally I don’t notice music that much, but this time I really did notice it as it was pretty hard to miss! Also the voice acting in this Call of Duty was well done. The accents sounded good and they Even had a bunch of German voice acting. You would often hear some German scream out something at you in German which really added to the experience.

I think you get your moneys worth when you buy Call of Duty 3, I sure did! Plus you’ll have lots of fun replaying it as there’s a chapter selects Feature and lots of Bonus Materials. Not to mention the game incorporates the new controls well and shows lots of promise for future releases.
I give Call of Duty 3 an:
8.8/10
That concludes my Call of Duty 3 review. Hope to see some replies!
