alex51011 Reviews: Rayman Raving Rabbids

Rayman Raving Rabbids
ESRB: E for Everyone
For the Nintendo Wii

The Rabbids are getting ready to put into motion the plot that they have been preparing for years.

Rayman is having a lovely picnic with the baby Globoxes when the Rabbids suddenly rise up from the ground, kidnap them all, and imprison them.

Rayman is thrown into an enormous arena, under the gaze of a hostile crowd of Rabbids. From this day on, solely for their own amusement, the Rabbids are going to put Rayman through a series of trials

It’s up to you to win them all and free Rayman…good luck buddy!

Raving Rabbids story is, well…interesting. As you’ve read in the intro you’ve been captured by the crazy, demonic, and very hilarious Rabbids, who for their entertainment are putting you through a long series of challenges. Of which after you complete three mini games and the ‘boss’ mini game you get a plunger which sets you one step closer to your goal of escaping your prison from a window up high in your cell which you get to by sticking your plungers on the wall.

I’ve got to say, the story is definitely original, and is wacky enough to fit in with this cooky game and I quite like it. It would get repetitive but the constant change of mini games changes that and I like it that way. All in all the Story is funny and fits with the theme of Raving Rabbids, what’s the theme you ask? Well Crazy and diabolical of course!

On the account of visuals, Raving Rabbids boasts some of the best characters that I’ve seen on the Wii so far. The Rabbids look great and there gestures add to their hilarity immensely. Another thing that looked great were the different environments in the plunger shooting Mini games. They always looked good and never disappointed.

One thing that was cool visually was the updating of your room and the different clothes, I was glad to see that the clothes would actually stay the same during mini games and cut-scenes. I thought that was pretty cool and is a part that definitely deserves a thumbs up.
The dancing arena looked nice too and they incorporated a lot of cool visuals into it to make it look even better, an example of this is how when you successfully get a Rabbid the light that shows it looks like a typical light that you would see at a dance, which helped to make everything look more like a dance floor.

Raving Rabbids has truly mastered the Wii-mote for the most part; the games take full advantage of the Wii-mote and are very fun. Not to mention the Rabbids are hilarious! An example of one of the great incorporations of the Wii-mote would be the Cow tossing which has you bring the Wii-mote above your head and spin it rapidly and once you’ve built up enough speed you let the bow fly by pressing B. Which is an hilarious site to behold.

The gameplay always varies and changes with every mini game you encounter, which provides constant amusement and amazing variety. Normally games that focus on mini games don’t have great single player gameplay but this one pulls off single player marvelously, although be warned trying to beat the single player all at once meet actually cause injuries…these games really want you to go ALL out.

Although once and awhile you might find yourself faced with games you’ve played before but now there just a bit harder. Which can be tedious but at least they actually add something new each time instead of simply lowering your time limit or something like that, and there actually aren’t a lot of games that were repeated.

The audio in this game was good, the music fit and was funny as sometimes it sounded like the Rabbids were singing it, which boast a whole new level of hilarity. They took a couple hit songs and used them in the dance mode which had good audio as it mixed the music with the screams of the Rabbids.

Which leads to another thing, the Rabbids, they have a complete different set of sounds, from the hilarious screams that you’ll encounter to the many devilish laughs. The Rabbids audio was stupendous. I would burst into laughter in the games like the choir one were you have to slap the bunny who was singing out of tune, it was so funny to listen to them when you slap them. Definitely a good point of the game.

Rayman Raving Rabbids is definitely worth your money and has great replay value since all the games are mini games. This game may not be perfect but if Ubisoft continues on the path it’s on the next game in the series should be quite a blast.

So this funny, jaw-dropping, outright insane game deserves a:

8.5/10

That concludes another of my Wii reviews, I hope you enjoyed it! Look out for my six reviews (including this one) that I should have up by the end of the week!
