If you happen to own a “classic” model of the Playstation 1, then don’t throw it away! It might just be worth just as much as a $6000 audio system. According to some reviews from an audiophile website called 6moons, the Playstation model SCPH-1001 can play music with better quality than some stereos out there.

I remember hearing about this long ago but it seems to have resurfaced.

I'm pretty sure I do have that model, but for the life of me I don't know where it is. After the PS2 came out it was very easy to forget about the PS1 Good find.

if anyone tries this, i would love to know if it is true...is the sound audiphile quality?

I doubt if you could sell the chip for any real kind of money. I think the whole idea is that the chip had some amazing capabilities for it's time and was very high quality.
