Wii trails behind PlayStation 3 in Oz

But the Nintendo DS managed to retain its spot at the top of the sales charts for the second quarter in Australia.

July 06, 2007 - GfK Australia has released the official Australian sales figures for the second quarter of 2007, revealing that Nintendo's Wii has in fact been outsold by the PlayStation 3 during the period, but by just under 1,000 units.

The Nintendo DS managed to retain its place at the top of the list with sales of 74,435, and it was followed by the PlayStation 2 with 45,962 units sold. The PlayStation 3 sat in third place with 27,645 units sold, followed very closely by Wii at 26,676, the Xbox 360 at 21,440, and lastly the PSP, not far behind at 20,068.

Lifetime figures were also outlined, and the PlayStation 2 has achieved sales of 2,052,193 to date, followed by the Nintendo DS at 589,873, the PSP at 288,757, the Xbox 360 at 181,561, Wii at 106,538, and finally the PlayStation 3 at 54,728.

Sony owns Australia while Nintendo of Australia prove to be a waste of space.

OMG NOZORZ,
"include positive wii spin here"
"talk about the rest of the world to detract attention from the fact at hand"

lol j/k

But seriously, the PS name is always huge there, and it's launch did very well, I'm not sure how Nintendo ever was, I think they were big on Sega before Sony came along.
Yes I know, which is why this is positive for Sony. Of course, the negative is it shows Nintendo isn't quite showing all their markets equal love. I know we're only Australia, still would be nice to see Nintendo actually trying.
Especially if your getting Smash/Metroid later than NA, it PS3 Will rape over there. Sorta..they still need to get a real solid game out.
The only solid game coming is Super Paper Mario in September. So I'd say Australia is Sony's at this point.
Yeah hate to say it but Japan and US and sometimes Europe get more attention then the rest of the world.
Within the gaming market, and it's sad to say, U.S. and Europe are the big hitters. When gaming starts catching on or disposable incomes become higher, then China and India will be the leaders...just look at their populations.
What is so hard about worldwide releases for Nintendo? That's what I'd like to know.
I don't think they would have enough product to do a worldwide release, which is why they do segmented with the largest targeted first.
Maybe companies don't do world wide releases very often at all is because they want the U.S. and Japan to feel special. That might sound childish, but I wonder if that might be the case.
If so then that's the stupidest thing I've heard since Assist Trophies in SSBB.

Do worldwide releases Nintendo, otherwise Sony will get more sales when you are in gaming droughts.

uhh...no. Despite having big populations, China and India will never beat the U.S. in terms of income possibility. There's a reason the USA is being treated with more priority over Australia, we're the biggest market on the planet. No matter how much anyone denies it, everyone wants America's money.

What's so stupid about assist trophies?

Nintendo doesn't need worldwide release dates, just simultaneous launches in Japan, America and Europe.

They can't claim the Wii to be ultimately supreme until they are selling the most in all countries.

Rant2whats wrong with you aussies. what da hell are you buying the PS3?
Because the Wii simply doesn't have enough titles to sustain us, so why support it when Nintendo isn't going to bother with us?
I'd feel the same way if I lived "down under". I wonder when how long the next gen systems will have to be out until they feel they've done enough in Europe, U.S., and Japan, so that they can start supporting some smaller game markets?
