its the same with the PS3 though right? Once you get down to it, buying a Wii or a PS3 now is all about playing a waiting game. Both sides are waiting for their killer apps to be released while 360, having been out for a year, will only start to look worse graphically and gameplay wise compared to Wii and PS3

One more price drop and the ps3 is mine.
But I think sales will slow down a bit after a week or so.

I wasn't even expecting a price drop, now that the price is down I may buy a ps3 instead of a 360

It won't last, will it?

as I've said before, I think you get a lot more value with the PS3. I mean the 360 elite cost something like $479 and the PS3 60gb is $499.
NO ONE should be looking to buy a 360 until they release their new form factor, because if they don't, they'll be sending their 360's in to be repaired and 3 year warranty or not, that's a pain in the butt.

i dont know how celebratory i would be...
i guess its good new that systems are moving again but sony was already losing a huge amount of money on each system and that was @ 600 bucks
the shareholders cannot be happy about this
but its nice to see maybe its a race again...maybe

With every month that passes, the hardware inside the PS3 gets cheaper to produce, so Sony isn't loosing near the amount they were when the system launched. Blu Ray technology on it's own has been cut in price dramatically.
Right now I'd rather be a shareholder debating a PS3 price cut, then a Microsoft shareholder eating a $1,000,000,000 360 debacle.

Dropping the price of the PS3 hasn't added any good games to the shelves yet. If you weren't buying one before for a reason other than cost, there's no reason to buy one now. Wait for the fall, at least then you should be able to play GTA or something. And lastly, I hope you have an HD TV, cause that's a lot of money to drop if the only reason you're buying it is for playing games... the same goes for Xbox, except at least the 360 gives you Live.

I think when people compare the two systems, they'll see the value in the PS3 for $499. Plus it seems that some of the best 360 games will be coming to our computers anyhow like Gears of War, so that deters from people possibly picking one up.
Here's something I found on Amazon.com, for those people looking to get a PS3 from them. I knew about the 5 free movies, but didn't know about the other...
• PS3 Price Drop Bonus: For a limited time receive a Blu-ray Remote Controller & Six Blu-ray discs FREE when you buy a PS3 from amazon.com. See offer details.

Yeah, that could deter some from picking up a 360, but on the same token you could say that games coming out on the PS3 are also coming out on the 360, so that could deter others from the PS3.
The free remote is nice, and the DVD's are a bonus (not very good choices), but it boils down to if you want the whole package for the price. I haven't decided which system I will eventually buy (360 has the edge in games right now, Sony has the edge in movies). But neither will probably be before I get a new TV.

I think good games is an issue for every system right now. When I go into Walmart I just sign at the games that are out for the Wii. 360 has a 1 year jump on games, but I couldn't go out and buy one because of the failure rate and all. In Sept or whenever "falcon" is released then it might be a better idea, but for those who don't own a 360 already, won't they not only have to buy the system, but also WIFI adapter and all that jazz. By the time you get down, you have more money sunk into a 360 elite then you do a PS3.

The PS3 is selling well at this price drop from Amazon primarily from bargin hunters that are looking for a Blu Ray player.
Cost wise, Amazon is the cheapest place right now, considering $500 plus they are including a free Wireless Blu Ray Remote, Memento Disc, and 5 other Blu Ray titles, plus free shipping and no tax for many customers.
Circuit City also has a deal going on right now that includes a free second controller and 5 Blu Ray movies. Some people are having luck stacking 10% off or $40 off $200 purchase coupons, but they have to pay sales tax in many places.
I doubt you'll see such a surge of sales outside of these two retailers. Yes, I'm sure they are selling better, but not to this degree.

I think the 5 Blu Ray movies are for any Blu Ray player right now, but the extra controller free would lure me into Circuit City.

I'm hoping that this increase in sales for the PS3 will put some pressure on Nintendo to give us some really good news or a couple great games to satisfy us. This EfA and E3 could make the world of difference. If Nintendo is too mum about what they've got in store then it could just crack open the door for Sony to gain some ground. Like Joker said though, a lot of people are buying it simply for the fact it is a Blu Ray player and maybe hoping some good games will come out for it soon.

I think we have to remember Nintendo before the Wii. They've always been very secretive and had this impression that people will love them no matter what. I think we've seen some very poor games come out for their system thus far, and quite frankly the ball is there's to drop. Unless they want to be left behind and once again known for the kiddy/party game system, then they'd better get their butts in gear and give us some REALLY GOOD games.
Sony will ride hide for a while after this news of the price drop, but what they do with it is up to them also. They can either use it to the fullest extent or they can piss it away and give us all just more of the same.

I think Nintendo's reputation will stay if they keep up what they're doing, with a side order of Metroid, SSBB and SMG.
I know the PS3 library isn't that fantastic, but I never owned a Sony console before, and there are a lot of PS2 games out there that look interesting, but I also want sone PS3 games too.
Huh, it's funny, in Canada the Xbox 360 Elite is the same price as the PS3 60GB now, they're both $549.99. (Or 626.99 if you count tax.)
I'm still going for the 60GB PS3 and MotorStorm, seperate.

so instead of losing $341.35* per unit sold they might ONLY lose $335
still a bunch o' money
*source + $100 price cut
i can understand this business practice only if you are selling 10s of millions on units and providing 1st party software to offset these losses...
with that being said, i wouldnt want 360 shares right now either

I'm not sure what point your trying to make, I never said they'd be at the top of the list in sales, I just said that the sales of the PS3 would go up from what they'd been

07-13-2007, 04:38 PM
they have a long way to go before they pass the wii in sales. i don't bash systems i just quoted a review about E3. I would buy a ps3 when the price goes down a little more. If Microsoft drops the price of the 360 sony will drop the ps3 a little more they need to keep ahead.
