NinjaRooster created a post in the PS3 area called PS2 goes HD. In it a program is talked about called Xploder HDTV player which allows PS2 games to be played in 480p, 576p, 720p and 1080i modes. In the source material it says that PS2 games get the sharpness of an Xbox 360 game, and with absolutely no effect on frame-rates at all.

I think everyone can agree that the Nintendo Wii is more powerful then the PS2, so why couldn't we get something like this, either from the company who makes Xploder or someone else. People might not care about the graphics now, but if you have the option to get a higher res pic on your television, wouldn't you do it? I'll put a link to the PS2 Xploder article so you can check it our yourself and see if it would be a good idea for the Wii.

RoostNinja's thread

here's a link to the Xploder website, if you want to email them asking them for a Xploder for the Wii

Xploder website
Something like that would be cool.Smile
That would be awesome, but you know what everyone says, the Wii is a GCN on funfactor steroids.......

(this is not a personal opinion)
but the Gamecube had more power then the PS2......so it should work.
yeah it should, that and the Wii is more powerful than the gamecube its just the developers haven't taken advantage of it yet.
Your missing the point. If a company can make an Xploder for the PS2 then they could probably do a similar product for the Wii.
Correct. I think its only a matter of time before we see something similar.
right but the Xploder unlocks something that is already there on the PS2. The HD options are simply locked out programs on the PS2 and the Xploder unlocks that option.
That makes sense, hopefully it could be possible to upgrade that with a firmware update but more than likely could be a hardware issue too.
well nintendo did say that the Wii could run 720p at 30fps didn't they? maybe there would be a way to unlock 720p on the Wii?
i really don't know why they wouldn't unlock it unless for some reason it effects the performance of the console somehow.
Probobly effects it in some way, but why would they put it in the Wii if they didn't plan on useing it?

The GC is more powerful than the PS2? wow, I always thought the GC was the weakest of its time.

if this was built into the PS2 why didn't Sony ever use it? i think the Xploder disc does a little more then just unlock some hidden PS2 function.

Isn't upscaling just some form of software enhancement? and I can't understand it being "hidden". The PS2 GPU is clocked at, what? 200MHz? That sucks, and "true" HD would make the thing overheat. I think it isn't "real" HD.
Maybe nintendo is waiting for some reason. Can't think of what that may be. Maybe they are waiting for a software upgrade or possibly they are still testing newer software. But with mod chips out already for the wii and the capability to run homebrew stuff. I'm sure there are some coders out there already working on it.

I agree, its just a matter of time. The wii hasn't been out that long yet, and there are still long lines and people waiting outside stores early in the morn to get them. As soon as you start seeing them on the shelves and people not fighting to get them, we should start seeing this kind of stuff.

Software updates can not increase the clock rate of a GPU though.

chances are nothing more is happening that what happens to your basic dvd movies on today's newer players. you pop in a 480p dvd and you can get it upscaled to 720p, 1080i, and even 1080p. that's what this thing has to be doing, probably running a program in some small cache of PS2 memory like that magic 8mb of memory U.S. PS2's have in order to play dvd movies (original ps2's in japan needed a memory card to do this)

Its possible, but really unprobable. It is a cool thing though, even though to be honest its not new. I saw this in my local game store over a year ago and I just saw the exact same copy sitting there on the same shelf today! lol
buy it and try it out, you can give us a review Smile
haha nah, I don't have a HDTV! I will be getting one in the next year probably, or at least a nice 25" that'll do 480p for my "games room"
