The latest adventure of special-ops agent Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was originally meant to be out in October 2007, then was delayed to a sometime-in-2007 release. The game's release date was again updated in the publisher's financial reporting, which listed it as releasing before the end of the fiscal year--March 2008.

Konami has today confirmed that the game will be pushed back until 2008 in North America and Europe. At the end of the latest MGS4 trailer, it said "worldwide release early 2008."

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is a PS3-exclusive stealth action adventure game, and part of the series that soared to popularity with the 1998 PlayStation title Metal Gear Solid.

Two sequels followed, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The games were created by Japanese game designer Hideo Kojima, who also worked on the Zone of the Enders and the Boktai series.

The latest game, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, was originally confirmed in 2004, although for substantive details of the title, gamers had to wait for the 2005 Tokyo Game Show, where the first trailer was shown.

I'm not at all surprised by this. I knew that Metal Gear wouldn't hit the PS3 till 2008 when they first announced it. Its a shame. Sony needed that game to propel sales during the Christmas season. oh well

Whether or not you think this game will go to other consoles sometime in the future really doesn't matter, Sony specifically said MGS4 is a PS3 exclusive in their keynote.

yeh, it's definitely going to the 360 eventually. it took a year for MGS2 to come to the xbox and it even came with extra content. ultimately, konami has the last word on its exclusivity.

I don't know what I think about that.... At least it will be worked on a bit longer, that's how I see it.

The extra content in the XBox version of MGS2 was also available in a PS2 version of MGS2. So that was nothing special.

That being said, I think MGS4 will end up on 360 eventually, but it doesn't matter at present. Because it will be exclusive at first.

I put as much faith into what Ninty-Wii thinks as to what Sony says. Sony rarely ever comes through on any of their "facts". I'm still waiting for those Toy Story-like graphics in game on the ps2...

That being said, yes, it's a shame MGS 4 was delayed, but I'm a firm believer in delaying a game for the right reasons (troubleshooting, tightening up controls and debugging). At least when it gets released it will be a tighter game (assuming that's the causes for delay). At least there are good games on the verge of being released for the PS3 now, so that's something.

On a side note: I still say Galaxy or Smash on the Wii gets pushed back into '08, but I could be wrong...
