The launch of Twilight Princess with the Wii was a first for Nintendo, which has never delivered a Zelda game so early in the life cycle of a new console. So does that mean fans may not be treated to another Zelda project, this time developed exclusively for Wii? Well, at the very least, it looks like it’s going to be awhile, Speaking with IGN Wii, Twilight Princess director Eiji Aonuma and Nintendo producer Shigeru Miyamoto collectively indicated that while some ideas are being tossed around for a new Wii Zelda project, nothing is very far along, or set in stone.

Asked if Twilight Princess would be Wii’s last Zelda, Aonuma said, “I can’t say, but I guess for now, maybe, yeah [laughs]. Not to say that it’s going to be the final game. There’s still a lot of potential with the Wii so there’s still a possibility that there could be another Zelda for it. We do have some ideas in the works, but I can’t say for sure because none of them have been approved and we’re still very much in the planning process, so I hope you look forward to whatever comes out.”

While Twilight Princess performed under expectations in Japan, the newly released DS title, Phantom Hourglass, is selling very well, and Nintendo is taking notice of gamers’ reactions. “The Phantom Hourglass has been released in Japan and reception has been very, very positive,” said Aonuma. “We’ve actually been able to receive feedback from the users and we’ll definitely take all of those comments into consideration when creating the next Zelda, whether it be for Wii or DS.”

Shigeru Miyamoto elaborated on the likelihood of another Wii Zelda. “It’s really hard to say because we’ve never had a Zelda that’s appeared so early in the life cycle of the system, so it’s definitely possible that there would be another Zelda on Wii,” he said. “Of course, the challenge is that typically a Zelda game is something that takes three years to develop, so we’ll just have to wait and see.”

I thought this might happen. Since the 3D Zeldas take a long time to make, we might from now on, only see one Zelda per console.

but consoles generally last 4-5 years. last time i checked, 3 years is less than 4, so it's entirely likely to have another Zelda on Wii

depending on how much they overhaul the system, they could put out a new Zelda in under 2 years like Majora's Mask. problem is, they redo the complete system and look between games. only similarities between Zelda titles are some items, the green clad hero and the word "Zelda" in the title. after how much people enjoyed the look of TP, maybe Miyamoto will stick to that look and leave the Windwake look (one of his personal favorites i believe) to the handheld Zelda titels
at least there's the Phantom Hourglass to look forward to on the DS. Frankly I don't think I'm ready for a full fledged Zelda game just yet. I have to concentrate on Nintendo's big three, which will take me into 2008, possibly 2009 with Brawl.

no Zelda for 3 years? I can handle it...
Not trying to sound like a jerk, or like I'm walking in LMX's footsteps; But Twilight Princess was built for the GCN, not the Wii. It was merely a port. In my eyes, I'm still waiting for the real Zelda RPG for the Wii.

Twilight Princess is a port. The Wii is yet to experience a true Zelda game built GROUND up for the console.

This news disappoints me.
Hmm... sooner than I thought. I was satisfied with TP and I'd be disappointed if another Zelda even came in 2008. Now I have something to look forward to in the future instead all of the major titles coming withing the next 6 months.
id rather wait out the three years than have a new game pop up within the next year. but it's going to be a long and painful wait if they end up not creating a Wii-made Zelda after TP was a Gamecube game with added controls...i'd lose faith and hope in the series.
I think this was kind of obvious to a few people. And I don't mind the wait, I prefer an amazing game that took 3 years than a game that took 1 year and was acceptable.
I agree with Dume and LM-X, they need another Zelda game on Wii as TP is a gamecube game, I was a little disappointed with TP on Wii, I wonder if I'd gotten the cube version instead whether it would have been more enjoyable?

Anyway didn't they say a while ago just after they'd released TP that another Wii Zelda had already been in the works for a year or so...bit contradictory.
well "been in the works" could be that story ideas have been tossed around. he did say that there were stories floating around, but none that could be approved. good sign, showing that they're not just going to pick the first story that came across their desks. worth it? totally.
As long as Nintendo takes their time to release them, not releasing them in multitudes like the Mario Parties, I'll be fine.
Yeah, Since TP Was A Port For GC, We Should Be Expecting A New Zelda In... Eh... 1 1/2 To 2 Years? Possibly. But We Gotta Have A New Zelda. But As Of Now, I'm Concentrating On The Big Three.
I'm concentrating on the big 3 as well. They, along with some others, will probably hold me off until the next one comes out.
No doubt they'll hold us off, but everyone KNOWS they want the next Zelda. Especially fans who are still bitter about Twilight Princess.
I think we will definitly see another Zelda on Wii. The true Wii Zelda that we all want.
I fully expect another Zelda for Wii. It's almost certain to be a hit, and I think Nintendo would like to make a "proper" Wii Zelda game (not that TP is bad, it just didn't take advantage of the Wii's capabilities as much as it could have).
The reason it didn't take advantage of the Wii is because it was a gamecube port. It was nice and all but the true Wii zelda will be seriously amazing. Since the real Wii zelda will be later in the Wii's life cycle I wonder what kind of graphics we will get? They could be amazing.
Im guessing most of the puzzles will take advantage of the motion sensing instead of just pressing A like in TP.

I believe there will be a LoZ game for the Wii. It would be a stupid move to only make one game of this franchise for this revolutionary console, Wii. I understand that they want the game to remain as it is, and they are afraid to make it bad (which will not happen never, Nintendo is GENIUS).
Well, I'm sure this is just another excuse to keep the fans badly, horribly expecting more of the Wii.

If Nintendo worked with Activision to make Legend of Zelda there would be hundreds of Zelda games... cough*Tony Hawk 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, etc etc*cough
