fuel for the haters...enjoy

1. Too many Public Relation Reels and other Videos: It got really annoying having to watch them over and over again. I understand that this is after all a “Press” conference; for the press. But in the end we don’t have to keep hearing about the same thing over and over again. A lot of that time could be used for other things. Heck watching these videos seemed as though I was watching an infomercial on TV of how Wii changed families.

2. Graphics: With the exception of Super Mario Galaxy (which was pretty short), there was really nothing there to “wow” anyone and say “yeah, that’s better than PS2″.

3. Lack of New IP’s: We know that Mario Kart was in development since Nintendo Power hinted at nearly a year and a half ago, but it’s just that, another Mario Kart. Wii Fit was practically the only new Nintendo IP announced.

4. Same “mumbo jumbo”: For hardcore gamers, this was a disgrace. It was the same “we are winning the non-gamers” scenario, with Mr. Iwata talking about the same thing we’ve heard so many times. Sure it’s for the press, but it can get old.

5. No Megaton for Hardcore Gamers: Wii Fit was obviously a HUGE Megaton because it can definitely push Wii demand above and beyond where it’s currently at. Nintendo goes on to say that they are not neglecting the hardcore gamers, but there really was no megaton for them. Where in the world is Kid Icarus? Likely never to happen. What happened to Disaster: Day of Crisis? That game was supposed to blow everyone away with its advanced “physics and AI”. But it wasn’t there. Is that thing even in development? Heck even Commodore 64 support on the Wii’s VC is megaton enough for me!

6. Wii Channels for Gamers: Ok so theres a new channel for Mii’s…for social networking it’s good. But for gamers? How about something related to gaming for once? Like a Nintendo Club channel? Heck a Nintendo Club channel would even be interesting to new gamers. Think about it, new release dates, a notice of a new game released…where is all this stuff?

7. WiiWare, VC and WiiConnect24: Nintendo mentions WiiWare is in existence…that was it. Virtual Console? All we heard was stats. How about some new announcements? What about reconfirming Neo Geo support and where are the Neo Geo games promised for the summer? We have only one confirmed title for WiiWare, revealed before E3. As for WiiC24, seriously, where is my Zelda Horse Armor? Where are my surprises Nintendo promised? I’ve waited till launch, no surprises whatsoever, except maybe the “Everybody Votes Channel” which has nothing to do with gaming. We heard nothing about WiiConnect24 at E3 and how it benefits gamers.

8. Arrogant Nintendo?: Ok Nintendo, the Wii was just launched back in November of last year and already you have declared absolute victory against the competition. For the hype, I understand, but I suppose Sony and Microsoft are really competitors, directly and it’s time for gamers to stop believing in the Nintendo PR known as “we aren’t competing against them”. Yes you are Nintendo…yes you are and you proved it at last night’s E3. As the only way to compete against them is by capturing the expanded audience and taking away market share. Nintendo’s attitude seems to have changed and I’m sure we know why Reggie is really happy. Don’t get too arrogant Nintendo, I don’t want to hear “The console wars are over” at E for All or eventually hear that “next-gen won’t happen till we say so” in the near future.

9. Still, Online is Lame: Reggie seemed to respond to those who say that they aren’t dedicated to online. Sorry Reggie, but hardcore gamers actually mean ONLINE GAMING and not web browsing and Wii channels. We saw games we already knew about and Mario Kart was so obvious. Where are some brand new Wi-Fi games? What the heck is Nintendo doing with online gaming anyway? I suppose since Japan doesn’t care so much, that Nintendo doesn’t either. We’ll see Reggie..we’ll see how it all plays out.

10. The Third-Parties: Where in the world is all the third-party talk and games? How come EA didn’t come out to talk about how great the Wii is? It was practically Nintendo’s show and about their first-party games. Even Sony had third-parties on stage! Last year’s E3 had game video reels that showed off a load of third-party games. All we saw were a few games like Soul Calibur Legends. Perhaps this is just more reason for third-parties to send junk to the Wii. Save the third-parties, save the Wii.

I know that in a Press Conference there is so little that could be said and done, but get rid of some of these reels/videos and cut down on some of the stats, I’m sure Nintendo could have done a better job.

Don’t get me wrong, Sony’s conference was much worse. All they did was show multi-platform titles, a few short first-party trailers here and there and came out without proving the system is worth the price. Sony failed, despite most Sony fanboys going wild over “Killzone”, which was not mind blowing at all. As for Microsoft, they did a decent job, but again, no Megaton and the Halo 360 Edition comes with NO HALO 3 game and a nasty color…that’s a joke.

1. I agree here.

2. Did you cover your eyes when they showed Metroid Prime 3? Sure its not teh 360 or PS3 quality, but its better than PS2 by far.

3. We don't need Nintendo to announce new IP's to know they will come out, give them time. E3 failed hardcore this year anyway. Maybe at EfA.

4. Its for the press. Yes, and if I'm correct E3 was more about the press this year wasn't it? (isn't sure about this, but also doesn't care)

5. Nintendo said they wouldn't have that big of a presence at E3, so if you went into the conference expecting an onslaught of new stuffz then you were always going to be disappointed.

6. I agree here, Nintendo needs to make better use of these channels.

7. Nintendo is only just now starting to work on the online aspects of the Wii. So maybe soon you can safely expect some WC24 surprises. Stop expecting so much from Nintendo on their first venture into the online world. They are LEARNING. Nintendo fans generally learn to be patient. You can't complain about nothing until your a PAL gamer.

8. Confidence is a part of the video game business. I don't know about you but I wouldn't like it too much if Nintendo came out and were like "Well, we think we might have a good thing going on here but we aren't sure." They need confidence, they can't come out with maybe's and if's and could's. That would be disappointing.

9. Nintendo is new to online. Give them some time to settle into it.

10. Maybe Nintendo told them to keep quiet until EfA (isn't it Nintendo headed) regardless, I can see a bit of your frustration here. But I'm sure there would have been some sort of reason for it.

Anyway, Nintendo failed at E3 and some of these are okay points, but some people are asking a bit to much from online for Nintendo. It's their first time.

Sony's first online venture on the PS2 wasn't so crash hot either.
I agree with LMX points and Nintendo is the basically the head of EfA and they still have Nintendo World 08 for some stuff. But like you said patience is the key. And Nintendo may not be on top of online games right now but they3rd parties are starting to. Madden 08, Fifa 08, MoH, Nitro Bike, DBZ: BT3 that's a start.
I'm holding almost all judgement of Nintendo's choices until after I see what they show me at EfA. I was disappointed in a lot of what I saw, but...hopefully they can make up for it all in October when they take the main stage for four days. I expect a LOT during EfA, and I hope I'm not disappointed at the end of it.

1. definitely. I know for sure that I saw some of the same clips in two/three of their slideshow/movies, and it seemed like they were simply tooting their own horn.

3. I was kinda disappointed in this too. I wanted to see games that I wasn't expecting, not just a "yeah, we really are working on what we said we were, and here's a short 5 second clip of it." Not only did I want something new go oogle at, but I wanted more than the short time they alotted for each game that they actually DID touch on. EfA should provide us with a bit more games, and since it'll be closer to the release dates for a lot of the bigger games that they mentioned here, I expect to see a lot of different games shown off, as well as demos of the games to come in that quarter.

4. nnn. the press isn't the only audience they should have gone for, no matter how much E3 is about the press... EfA will probably be ten times better, because it's all about the gamers, for four days. With Nintendo spearheading it, they can do practically anything, and thats what they better do; anything and everything to make EfA a gamer's greatest Nintendo experience.

6. Now I want Nintendo Club channel ):

7.  Like LMX said, its a learning experience for them. They tried something new, and it'll take time for them to realize what should be done and what should be dropped.

8. They were arrogant, but anybody in such a competitive business like this needs to be. Become a push-over, and thats exactly what will happen. Nintendo was showing that they're not going to be left in the dust of Microsoft and Sony, and that they really are expanding their market and not simply falling behind.

9. Well from what I saw, it seems like there will be a few online games, so hopefully we'll see more of these coming forward soon. Hardcore games with online for the hardcore gamer...wonder how long it'll take for games like that to actually be released...

10. What LMX said :3

with the stats, a lot of it wasn't really a surprise. Older people started showing more interest in the games they used to love, girls are becoming a larger target, they dominate the Handheld market, etc...i think it all could have been reduced in the length of time dedicated to their stats, because it was almost all very predictable. but it was good to see that they truly were improving and expanding their audience, and not just blowing steam.
good point / counter point lemon and LZ... thanks for posting Smile
nintendo doesnt need new IPs they have all the best game series. mario, zelda, metroid, smash bros, etc.

Those are first party games.

Unless Nintendo shows me decent 3rd party support, I'm not getting the console. And that was what I was hoping to see at E3.

I agree with with most of what you said LMX and LZ, but EfA is not an excuse. We aren't talking about EfA, we're talking about E3.
EfA won't make their E3 conference any better.

This is discussing how bad the E3 conference is, not how EfA might deliver what E3 failed to.

E3 was quite disappointing overall, but if you think about it, the 360 was the only system with a hope for it since it's been out for over a year. Nintendo and Sony are still getting used to their own systems, and 3rd party supporters are even worse. we should all be used to how slow consoles generally start out. the 360 had nothing good released on it for quite a few months, same with PS2, Gamecube, N64, Dreamcast, and many other consoles

as far as the new IPs, we should also be used to Nintendo refurbishing their tried and true series. the Mario game is close to release, so is Metroid, SSB, and now Mario Kart. Zelda was just released. what else could Nintendo really do? all their resources are likely going into the games that were released with Wii's launch and shortly after which we've seen, and the big titles that are close to releasing. once these titles are released at the end of this year, they'll start work on the next round of Mario, Zelda and Metroid games along with other IPs. maybe even pick Day of Crisis back up or whatever. as far as i'm concerned, we knew what the 1st parties were going to do, so it was pretty much screwed to begin with

if you think EfA will be any different, probably not. we may get more info on SSB, MK and SMG, but there won't be new games aside from 3rd parties because those 1st parties still aren't out yet and it's WAY to early to say anything about a new Metroid or Zelda title

next year will be different. with all the obstacles the Wii and even PS3 are trying to overcome in their first year and a half of release gone, they'll have more support from the 3rd parties and have the window open to new 1st party games

3rd parties are knocking each other over lining up to develop for the wii, once they saw instant sellouts, a 10 mill+ plus install base , and MUCH lower development costs, its a no brainer, every developer not locked into sony/ms exclusivity is developing for the wii now, 2008, and beyond

so if thats all holding you back, go for it

What LMX and LZ said, and to #9:
Aside from being new to online, Nintendo also lets us access it for free.
