Microsoft after the press conference was reported to have been planning to do a price drop on 360, not for the sake of challenging Sony, but rather to challenge Nintendo’s Wii according to a Bloomberg report. Wii has been selling so well as it is set to dominate the industry, especially with its upcoming Wii Fit package.
According to one major Canadian retailer, Microsoft plans to attack the Wii on August 1st, with its Core package priced at $199 (Premium and Elite will also see a $100 price cut). Of course most gamers know that the Core is perhaps the worst sku available coming from the three manufacturers, but the regular consumer who walks into a store and sees the larger library offered by the 360 as well as a price tag that is cheaper than the Wii, might have second thoughts. As for non-gamers and casual gamers, Microsoft will need more than just “Scene it” and Viva Pinata: Party Animals to convince them.
For hardcore gamers though, most might be tempted by the price, graphical and online capabilities and purchase a 360 over a Wii and PS3. On the other hand, for the price of a PS3 at $499, who would be crazy enough to miss out on a “Wii60″ for $448 and still save money for games?

If this happens, it might make Nintendo rethink a price cut of their own, which is good for the consumer. Competition is never bad, and with this possible MS price cut, things will get a lot more interesting.
Also Nintendo might start pumping out more High Quality games if they think 360 might take away some potential customers.
I still won't buy a 360 until M$ can give a better guarantee my system won't die on me.
It will hurt sales slightly, but if Nintendo can give us quality games and a possible small price cut. The Wii sales will be fine.
it definately will have a small impact on the wii because some gamers just dont like the jumping about swinging the wiimote like a looney and prefer midless button bashing instead... cant see why though...
It won't do that much damage. and Nintendo will start pumping out quality titles regardless. Also Wii the casual gamer market, one that M$ doesn't have. Nintendo would still maintain both their audiences.

thats true, some folks just love to button mash...
i mos def think that if this happens the wii could be in some danger simply because the 360 has the largest library of games. sure you can say that most of the 360 games are aimed towards the hardcore crowd but by makin the console more affordable it just might make it more appealing to the casual gamer and well then turning them into hardcore gamers. So i say that when this happens ninty is really gonna have to step up and start pumpin out some better quality games and well nintendo will also have to start putting more pressure on the third party developers to produce better wii games....
LMX: Doesnt Microsoft have a 3 year warranty on 360's now? I only know because the warranty was extended one week after my friends got the Red Ring of Death.
the red ring of death sounds a real bugger. what is it exactly is a scratch on the disk or is a display thing?
Yes because when Nintendo fans like Luben are going to buy a 360 they're going to be directly influenced by the price. Playstation 3 is at an intimidating price.
It happens when the system over heats and the green light that shows that the system is on turns red.
oh dear... my mate got that when we playing R6V. we were like "Ooooh ****. red is not a good thing" it was so stupid the way he said it, it was funny
i dont even think micorsoft will drop the price
A little bit, but nothing major.
You make a good point there in that even if Microsoft DOES cut the price both the Wii and the 360 combined will be cheaper than a PS3. That's so sad it's not even funny. Now, if the PS3 cost that much I'd be all over it. Never planned on buyin a 360, and I don't intend to, cut or not. Especially with the looming red ring of death. No thanks.
well by the time M$ lowers the price of the 360, Sony and Nintendo will probably have dropped the price of their consoles so it'll pretty much remain the same.
then again...

the article said august 1st on the core price going to $199, and i guarentee you the wii wont drop one dime this year.
nothing can stop the wii

When the colors come out, even more Wiis will be sold.
