We aren't quite equal with the guys yet, but it looks like we're slowly but surely getting there. 38%? We make up more than 1/3 of the gamers everywhere...older females play more than the younger guys...and we average 11 years of gaming each. Less than three years difference with the guys? I'd say that in a lifetime, 3 years isn't all that much, and we're very very close with that.

That's not too shabby, if you ask me...wonder if we'll get even higher percentages by the time the next gen consoles come out?

My prediction: WiiFit will be a great way for more women to get involved. A majority of the girls i know are always looking for a new way to get themselves toned, lose a little bit of fat, gain some muscles, etc...and if they do purchase it, then who knows, they may even venture out to buy other games for the system.

Yeah, I agree with your last part. Most old women are looking for stuff that will help there bodys, and exercise games would be fine, and with the Wii's capabiltys it just may help
I still feel ignored by guy gamers... in every sense of the word. If they keep pretending girls don't exisit they're never gonna get any themselves. Toungue
I am the only real "gamer" that is a girl at my school.

Toungue

I seem to get along with the guys tho. I usually don't play with them

o.O

That didn't sound right

D:
XD it does sound really wrong

i'm not the only female gamer on campus, but i'm one of the more "hard-core" ones, even though I wouldn't consider myself hardcore. Most of the time, guys i hang out with don't find out that im a gamer until they come into my room and go "WTF, i didnt know you game!" Usually it's because they don't pay attention to the comments i make (like when someone says "hey" i say "look! listen!") that make it obvious i play games...but then once they figure it out, they're usually cool about it. and have a hard time when i beat them ^^
! Ha, I love what you just said. XD I got myself integrated at the videogames club at my old school by beating all the guys at super smash. XD

It was hilarious, some actually got mad at me. O_o;

Girls are definitely getting more and more involved in this nerdy industry. XD (j/k) And they're starting at very young ages too. << There are a lot more elementry girls with a DS than there are highschool and college girls.... Kind of weird, really but... games were designed with "kids" in mind, right? ^^

Now thats freakin' hilarious.

hehe...
None of my friends that are girls liking gaming (i guess they are off there heads! Toungue)
That's probably why I gel better with the guys, like Billy for example Smile.
IDK I've been gaming for a very long time & the places that I frequent are just used to me being their customer. So I don't feel ignored at all..

Unless I go to a new gaming store w/ my husband & they think he's the one looking for then game but it's really me. But the only time that ever happened is when I went into a store outside of our area.. But that was like a year ago O_o'
yeah, until the store starts seeing me frequently, they assume that the Zelda sweatshirt i'm wearing is a boyfriends or something. after about 5 stops in a gamestop by my old school, one of the people asked if i was ever gonna return it...i was so confused as to why i should return a sweatshirt to the store, then realized what was going on and i just kinda hung my head -_-

i was in Target the other day picking up a Wii for my cousin, and i was looking at the line in front of me...i think there was maybe 1 guy and 4 women picking up a Wii. 3 of the women (maybe in their 40s or so) were talking about how their husbands were supposed to get the system for them for christmas but couldnt get it, so they're buying it for themselves now. i smiled and started talking to them, and i was surprised at how important the Wii was to these women. they were genuinely interested in playing the games, and one said it'd be the first time she's played a game since the NES. i walked out of Target with a giant smile on my face, knowing that even the old-timers are making a comeback ^^

That happened to me once but I just looked to my husband when we were in the store & asked him if he wanted to wear my shirt anytime soon. It was hilarious u should have seen how embarrassed this guy got. xD But my save was I knew the manager who worked there who laughed at my comment. ^^

Lol that's cute. I've been playing my Playstation & GC games all along. And when I heard about the Wii, I knew I wanted it when it was launched. ^^

Hey I got my grandma to play Wii Sports. She barely knows what a video game is and she played. I think if she didn't have to learn how to actually use the system she'd play all the time.
Actually, Wii Sports was what ended up getting my parents into the Wii. My mom hated video games before, but she's now "in" to it, I guess.

You know, re reading this thread I neglected to add: I'm surprised that the percentage of female gamers is so high, or at least higher than I thought it was. They said the average is 11 years worth of playing experience for an adult woman? I have fifteen under my belt, easily.

I agree that maybe WiiFit will attract the interest of women, but I dont think using the Wii for fitness qualifies you as a gamer per se, and the attraction of getting fit in your living room on a console may not translate into generating interest in REAL video games...
no, it wont; but it's like a segway into gaming. start with WiiFit, then move on to other games for the system, because the wii has catered to people like them who are just starting to get into the videogame section of life.
See, thats where I disagree. I dont think some chick that plays WiiFit is suddenly going to start taking an interest in video games, if her primary concern is exercise. I never needed a segway into video games, I liked them first, then took them up now later in life for fitness. I just dont see a gal looking for a way to do easy yoga at home, might start feeling like maybe she wants to play Mario or something. I
you have a point, but i dont think a woman should pick up a wii and WiiFit simply for exercise...you can get an entire yoga set for less money.

but take WiiSports as an example. it's not an extreme game and gft was even just saying that it isn't a game but simply a demo for the controls (i disagree, but that's whats being said). but even though people don't perceive it as a game, it still is. it's got so many people playing a videogame that wouldn't normally. there was even a WiiBowling tournament between four retirement homes, which i think is pretty sweet. but if people start with simple games like WiiSports or WiiFit, then they may take an interest in the Wii and see what else they can easily get into. although it may not be gaming with Mario or Zelda, they're still looking for more. Cooking Mama, Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, etc. they may not be looking for an intense gaming session, but something to have fun with or relax. i'm not saying that this is how everyone is, because as you did, i started gaming to play the games. LttP was and always will be one of my favorites, and it was one of my starting games on the SNES. but aside from the female gamers that are like us, there are more that never touched a game before and are now starting to. WiiFit would be a more expensive way to start out than with WiiSports or WiiPlay, but it's still a way to start.
