I use a Dell Demension 4400 and i was wondering if it could suport a fully compatable directx9.0 with pixel and shader support video card. I need to know because now adays games require that type of power to run. Please help.
Well it should work, it's more about compatible software and OS really..... I'd wait for a DX10 video card to get cheap. Does your PC have plenty of RAM?

i don't know. how would i check?

found out. My computer has 512 MB of ram.
go Start > Control Panel > System

and tell me what it says here
I did some research and since until recently dell used proprietory memory if you wanted more RAM you'll need to buy special memory for your computer:

best I could find: http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-DIMENSION...B00006HUSX

Though you're not so limited with your graphics card. You can have anything that works at AGP 4x.

I'd recommend an ATI 9550+ or a GeForce 5500+

I used to own a 9700 PRO when I was back in the days of AGP, and it's a kick ass little card. you're best bet now-days for one is eBay though.
D4rk can read people's futures by looking at their System Properties.

Oooh, oooh, D4rk do me, do me!

yeah, i did what you said before to find out the 512 mb ram. Is that enough? And if so, where can i buy that video card?
That'll bring you up to 1GB which is pretty good provided you don't want to play the latest games at full settings.

and the 9700 PRO? eBay. they don't make them anymore.

if you really are serious about games, get a new (non dell dimension) computer. Alienware and Dell XPS are good for games and you can do it for under $1000, or you could look for good deals at a local electronics store.

Thought the best way to get a computer is make it yourself, however not everyone is confident enough to do that Smile
Alienware IS Dell.

And ya, building your computer from scratch is the best bet.

It's not as hard as you'd think.

I'm planning on building a whole new computer, but I keep on telling myself its not worth it.
I think I'll do it once Fallout 3 comes out.
Alienware is a subsidery, but the same guys who ran it before still run it, so the computers are pretty much the same quality.

and Alienware is generally the cheapest of boutique PC Manufacturers

Yeah, but that costs alot of money, and i'm not old enough for a job. Which leaves low paying chores (25 cents a chore) and holiday money for income.
