Full Version: Nintendo Admits They May 'Lose Some Purists'

"GameDaily has up their full E3 interview with Nintendo of America's George Harrison, SVP of Marketing and Corporate Communications. Harrison talks about the move of the company's sales and marketing force, acknowledges that Nintendo may 'lose some purists' while attempting to broaden the audience, and he doesn't rule out a Wii revision: 'It's interesting, console hardware has always historically been on a sort of fixed, sequential pattern almost every five to six years and it takes you about five years to develop a new piece of console hardware. The handhelds and portables, like Game Boy and now DS, we've always been continuously innovating, and whenever we feel like it's time or have an upgrade, we'll do it, whether it's an improved screen for the handheld or slimmed down like the DS Lite - those types of things. So it's not out of the question on Wii, but we're not even to our second holiday yet, so it's kind of premature to talk about any revisions to the hardware itself.'"

I don't like it when game companies even put the idea of a revision on the table for their current console. I like it even less when I have the original Smile
I doubt they'll lose too many purists as long as the gaps between their Nintendo titles aren't too big. Example: GC port Twilight Princess to Wii game Metroid Prime 3 is too big of a gap with very little support from the VC.

Their main concern is losing purists in other regions.
I don't see anything happening until at least the end of 2009. Smile

I understand where you're coming from on the revisions though. I was so jealous of everyone's Slim PS2 at the time that I had to buy one.
Yup if a revised Wii comes out that has more capabilities or even (God help us) HD capabilities...I'd be a little pissed off, and would probably move to another system, and be monogamous with it.
i dont think wii will lose pursits for a while
thers only so many FPS a person can play...if (and its a big if IMO)they leave they will be back cuz the is the most revolutionary game system since the Atari 2600
The "other" games are fine, but the least Nintendo can do is give us a HARD Zelda game for the Wii.
maybe they can port phantom hourglass Smile

its being reviewed thru the roof...but so was TP...i myself liked it btw
it was too easy for people who remember the Zelda of back in the day, back when it was made famous.
They need better Third party games.
how is that Nintendo's fault? 3rd party games aren't their fault!

Nintendo needs a really good exclusively new IP
huh? spend more time on 3rd party titles, third party titlers.

Do Nintendo games still have that seal of quality? I would think Nintendo could pass on any game they didn't think was very good. Yes a publisher may be upset, but perhaps they'd come back with something better.

mario
metroid
zelda
wii sports
excite truck
wario ware

too many DS games to mention...

so yes, yes they do, they pwn

I was being literal Smile Remember the seal of quality that Nintendo started doing years ago?

Anyhoo give me the dates for those games, and I think you'll see that Nintendo can't do this on 1st party games alone. I'd have thought we would have learned from the N64 days.
but we have allready established in countless threads the 3rd party support is astronomical

and the wii is the new king of exclusives,

couple that with the BEST 1st party games and Iwatas prediction of 100 million consoles sold is not such a lofty goal
You just don't get it. You can flood the market with 3rd party games, but if they're crap, then it makes the system look very bad. How many more exclusives did Nintendo have from it's competition. I ask because I can pick out more then 5 of those "exclusives" that were pure crap.

I'm getting damn tired of playing VC games all the time because I can't go to Walmart and pick up a good Wii game. When I'm not playing VC, I'm playing Excite Truck, and that's a launch game. N64 days seem to be coming back...

Enjoy these exclusives.

Action Girlz Racing
Agatha Christie: And Then There Were None
Carnival Games

Hannah Montana: Spotlight World Tour

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games
My Horse and Me
My Word Coach
Namco Museum Remix
I don't think we will lose many purists. Because the real purists will stay for the Mario, Zelda, Prime, Smash etc.
wrong (not you ninty)

lets look at the ps2 model, sell alot of consoles...flood the market with alot of crap games...sprinkle in some good ones...sell alot more consoles...flood the market with more crap games...and on and on it goes...

so was the PS2 a bad system because of all the crap games that came from 1st and 3rd parties? no

gamers have to decide what worth their money, thats all

and it would be elitist to think that all these wii third party games are crap...one mans high school musical is another's metroid...it take all kinds of gamers to sell 10 million consoles

Gamers are already complaining and asking Nintendo to make a harder Zelda game, because most everyone can agree that Windwaker was super easy, and so was Twilight Princess (the bosses were a joke).

As for Mario, Smash, and Prime...what do we do between those games and what happens after their release? How long will we have to wait for another great Nintendo game?
