Amid statements made formerly by Nintendo that a revised Wii is a possibility, Nintendo vice president of marketing George Harrison reiterated in an interview published on Monday that an upgraded Wii could come, though not for a while.
"It's not out of the question," Harrison said when asked in an interview with GameDaily if a revised Wii is already in the works. "But we're not even to our second holiday yet, so it's kind of premature to talk about any revisions to the hardware itself," he concluded.
I know guys, the new handheld Wii is great, isn't it Sara?
The Wii, despite its commercial success, has been widely criticized by some core gamers for its antiquated graphics and processor technology. Official hardware specifications have never been unveiled by Nintendo, and critics suggests that while popular now, the Wii won't last the traditional 5 year console life cycle due to its dated technology.

I would actually hate this. I already bought my Wii.

If they added cool new stuff to it then that would seriously piss me off!
I don't go out on launch to buy a Wii just to find out that theres going to be a new revised wii not that far away. I would of just preferred to wait.
Same. I would hate for this to happen.
it will be 5 years, dont worry
I wouldn't mind getting a new Wii if it was vastly superior, that is if it didn't take me 8 months to get it after launch again.
How often to Companies like Nintendo come out and basically say a new system or revamp could be on the way so soon? Do you some of the Wii criticism is getting back to Nintendo so they feel like they gotta hold people off for a while by giving them hope of another system?
A new Wii can't easily have improved graphics because it would break compatibility to older systems.
The only way I can imagine graphics looking better than what they do now is if they added anisotropic and trilinear filtering in software.
Oh don't forget this

VC games are emulation, and Wii and Gamecube games are done through the hardware right? I see no reason why they couldn't have a system that up converts the present games to HD with a more powerful graphics chip.
I think most issues people talk about with the Wii are the graphics, sound, and maybe even the need for some kind of larger storage. That isn't hard to do.
Me no want a new wii to come out, =D
We're still in the first year of the Wii's release, people are complaining, but we really haven't seen what the Wii can really do yet. Starting with MetroidP3, we're going to see a trio of titles that are poised to really show off the strengths of the system. Those three games alone will sell consoles. And then there's WiiFit... And haven't we heard lots of news about developers shifting resources to Wii development...? And all the press about WiiSports and now WiiFit and how casual gamers are jumping on board and its getting praise for getting gamers up and moving....? And then Harrison's comments about how Sony is confusing consumers with the different PS3s...?
How could you possibly worry that Nintendo is going to release another version of Wii in the next year or two that would make the current system obsolete? There is really no need to. The only possible upgrades I could see them make are merely cosmetic, like maybe smoother edges or something.
Really, don't worry.
Even if this does come out in 5 years I would still be kinda mad.
meh that's along way away
I'm fed up with this, absolutely fed up with this industry. It never used to be like this. Before, the companies would cater to the needs of the customers, today, it seems like the companies are pushing US around. If Nintendo releases a Wii lite before 2009, I will be absolutely POed, POed enough to maybe stop buying Nintendo. Sony, I can understand, small incremental upgrades, as technology moves on in the HDD industry, but I get the frequent PS3 firmware upgrades, as well as the new PS3s are lacking the EE.GS. Oh well, I don't have the time for one of my long drawn out rants.
*cough* Umm, Goo NINTENDO!
(Just not hoping for a wii lite anytime soon)

Naw, you'd need new textures and models or it'd look cruddy

Mario in 720p

maybe it could be backwards compatible with all Wii games now and then any new Wii games could be developed for the WiiHD (trademarked by NinjaRooster)
then again, I doubt this will happen. I predict by 2009 the new Wii will come out.
