hi. I am so disappointed that CNN video cannot be watched in the Wii. I got a message saying the flash player needs to be updated. Is there any way to update it?
IMO, the Opera browser should support more video formats!!
Thanks.
I totally agree, but there's little that can be done unless Nintendo chooses to support more formats. Maybe you should write a email to Nintendo and tell them your issue.
yea u can only watch certain things like youtube
The Wii opera browser is already at a big dis-advantage because of its lack of keyboard. People don't need even more reason not to use it. Not good Nintendo.
This issue relies solely on Adobe. The Flash player was created for opera to run on the Wii's proprietary operating system. The CNN video system uses many advancements made in the flash video system since version 8/9. The Wii has v.7, and that's likely the way it will stay for a while. Because Adobe refuses to release the flash SDK for beyond version 7, there's no legitimate way Nintendo could create a flash player, unless they completely attempt a fresh app by reverse enginnering, which would be a nightmare that would require more team resources than it's worth.
Yes if you don't mind me saying so, please don't mention or ask stupid questions. Again, I'm sorry, but we already knew that the Wii only supported vr.7 of Adobe Flash. sc7 was right about that, but I heard different. I heard that Adobe were going to let Flash 9 be on Opera, but Opera Software were too late to give them the specs of the "Internet Channel". Supposedly, Adobe will later give us Flash 9
I don't actually think it was a stupid question. He obviously didn't know that Wii opera only supported Vr 7.

@CMF
The thing is, that it's not "Opera" that gets flash 9. You can get Flash 9 on Opera for Mac/PC by getting the version for Mozilla. The app has ties to the OS it's running on. Without the release of an SDK, or an Adobe release, it can't get v9 on the Wii's proprietary OS.
Ah okay, thanks for clearing that up sc7, rep'd.

p.s., N-W stop stealing my thing

People keep stealing my things lol.
Next you're going to steal my signature font
And I just thought it would be easier to put [to be locked] instead of putting this thread needs to be locked.....
Lol and to be honest I wouldn't want to steal your sig font.
Nah you could just say "TBL"
that is generally recognised
Well, I guess that's what we get for it being free for most of us... maybe if sales on it increase Nintendo will offer more support.
geez. how quick do things turn to spam on this forum >_<

Wow, I didn't even notice that until you posted that...
Hopefully we'll be able to see more than youtube videos as time goes on.
I rarely (once a month maybe) use the Opera Browser for my Wii. Not only because using my laptop is so much easier but also because of the reason in the first post. I can't do as much on it and until I can I won't be using it much.
Same with me. Sometimes even less frequently. However, sometimes I like seeing vids on my TV rather than my computer, so hopefully more will be available.
I understand the Opera brower can't support everything. Still, it is really disappointing it cannot support videos from big web sites like CNN or discovery.ca. And that it is not readily user upgradable.
I suppose there are fewer and fewer web pages compatible with Wii as more sites use the newer flash player.
Well CNN does have a channel on Youtube so try that.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that! Yamato, I'd say that's your best bet.
