According to a new Nielsen report, the Xbox 360, Wii, and Playstation 3 scored a combined share of only 13.5%. Nielsen's data even showed the Gamecube at 5.8%, above the Wii.

Specifically, the Xbox 360 counted for 8% of game time in the US, with the Wii at 4% and the PS3 barely ranking in with 1.5%. The original Xbox took second place with 17%.

It's a new analytic research field for Nielsen that uses a rather unscientific method of just polling its existing 12,000 households in the Nielsen TV group.

Still, it underlines the importance of past consoles. Though Nielsen showed the PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube as three of the four most played systems last month, only the PS2 still has support from the company that made it. Microsoft has stopped producing the original Xbox and Nintendo doesn't even like to talk about the Gamecube anymore.

Nielsen also said that a total of 68 million people played console video games last month.

Ps2 still has the most good games, so it makes sense, I have nothing to really play on my Wii, and im actually playing PS1 >_>
Well to be honest even being a Fan of the Wii I would think that the 360 would be the most played.
Once people buy any system, then they have to have games to support it. Each next gen system has a couple games that are really good, but like Cloud pointed out...the PS2 has an amazing library that you can go back to and find dozens and dozens of games that are high quality and fun.
* Cloud still has to play through god of war 2
I'm sure that's one of those games that has kept the PS2 so popular and contributed to the numbers in june.

On a side note, I never picked up GOW2 Sad
I guess it true since I just went and played my PS2 like last week.
I realize that I'm not the average gamer by any means, but I haven't played my PS2 in months. When I do it's usually a couple minutes on Guitar Heroes, but if I'm not playing a Next Gen system, I'd rather play my Xbox...
How could he find this information out? going door to door asking people what consoles they play?
Nielson isn't a person it's a company that tracks these sort of things. They're better known for doing it with television shows.
I play Gamecube games on my Wii the most, closely followed by the PS2. I can understand Wii and PS3, neither has any amazing games out atm and they haven't had any for awhile. But the XB360 one confuses me, that system has a solid library of titles, if I had one it'd easily be my most played.
Last time I played a Gamecube game on my Wii, I lost its data. =(
