Woo Hoo! "The Simpsons Movie" turned doughnuts into dollars over the weekend, raking in $71.9 million to debut as the top movie this week.
The big screen tale of the lovable, if dysfunctional, family rolled over the competition, sending last week's top movie, Universal Studio's "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry," into second place with $19 million, a 44 percent drop.

Oh I thought "a big d'oh" was a bad thing
lol I loved the movie and I'm very glad to see it do so well. I heard that chuck and larry movie was pretty bad...
lol, yeah. How it beat out Harry Potter I'll never know.
Won't probably see this till it's on DVD.... i'm much too cheap for theaters.
Harry Potter has been out for a number of weeks, and this was The Simpson's opening week, that's how it beat it.
I was happy that the movie was awesome. In fact I saw it 3 times this weekend.
nice...during the first half I of the movie I couldn't stop laughing...when it got a bit more serious the laughs were farther apart, but over all the movie was very very good. we've been waiting many years for this movie, and I'm happy to see FOX pull this movie off so well.
I was a little worried this film would be bad. But now im not.
*needs to go see it!*
I want to see it too now... and i will tomorrow, and
i will spoil it for every one not tell you guys what happens.

Oh I thought "a big d'oh" was a bad thing
Yeah me too lol!
Anyways i still havent seen it, but cuz of this i'll probably will go see it soon!
Awesome movie. I wasn't expecting much and maybe that was a good thing as it made it that much better.

Nah, I was referencing "I know pronounce you Chuck and Larry".
More people can relate with The Simpsons over Harry Potter. It is pretty surprising though that they beat Transformers opening weekend, and if you take into account that HP played in somewhere around 800+ more theaters than The Simpsons it would seem as though that Homer and crew beat out HP seeing as how HP only made 77 million its opening weekend. This movie definitely Pwns.
Now Fox, end the Simpsons before the series spoils the films success.
I might try tuning into the series again. Just to see how things are going. The movie gives me new hope. But if I don't like it, I understand that there are people who feel differently and will still enjoy watching it. If no one watched it, it would've been taken off the air by now.
I watched a new episode the other night. It was not good, it was not as funny as the movie.
*waits for Futurama in 08*
The latest season really isn't that bad. It at least has more substance than Family Guy
New Family Guy and new Simpsons both suck.
This years Treehouse of Horror should be awesome, they're doing a parody of The Lost Boys
