When it comes to next gen system, you don't get much larger then the PS3. Yes it's sleek and glossy, but it's really quite bit. Many times people attribute the size of the PS3 to the fact that newer technologies are larger, and thus system are large also. Later in their product life cycle these machines will probably get smaller and smaller. There's one thing about the PS3 though that some people might not realize...let me first start by saying this...
You know that huge power brick that the Xbox360 has, well the PS3 has something similar to that but it's actually inside the PS3. Sony made a decision to not have that piece of equipment on the outside of the system, so you wouldn't have to mess with an enormous power brick. One has to wonder though, if the PS3 did actually an external power brick, how much smaller could Sony have made their system? After you think about that, ask yourself why the 360 is still so large with the power brick on the outside and why isn't Sony haven't heat issues with a power source on the inside of the system?
When asked if the power source would be on the inside of the PS3 like it was on the PS2 Sony Executive Izumi Kawanishi said:
What do you think? Would you rather see a smaller PS3 with an external power brick? Do you think this would be a way for Sony to release a Slim PS3?

It's of course internal...It's better that way. We of course do things the good way.
