so i finally got my d-link router working. it claims it has 4x the length the regular d-link routers have. i would like to know if anyone knows how to open all the ports so the range of the router is longer. it doesnt seem to have a far reach. my wii is right in the next room and it only has a 1 signal. so if u could help id giv u a rep. it is fine when playing tho. ive only been disconnected from a game once and it takes a long time to get all the stats of everyone

edit -  sry i did not c the section on tech and gadgets. no need to yell. u can move this if there is a problem
I'm not too sure about how D-Link works (my parents did all the technical stuff XD), but I had one. Mine worked okay with my Wii, maybe it's your internet itself? Not a good enough internet might be the problem. Opening ports, experimenting -- playing around with the router may help. If that doesn't do anything, and is your router itself, then I would suggest the Linksys WRT54GS, when you have the money/can convince your parents.
My old router fried somehow, so I went and got a Linksys WRT54GS.

It. Was. AWESOME.
Way better than the D-Link. Full bars all the time, and no problems so far. (Got it a few months ago.)
if you check the nintendo webpage they'll give you specific routers NOT TO USE with the Wii.

I think this has been talked about before, but I think the Wii only uses wireless B inside of it. That's been a big debate before, but I use a netgear wireless router that uses B standard, and the Wii is probably 20ft away from the router and it works great.
So which is the best wireless router to use
Anything by Linksys/Cisco is a good start Smile

I don't know about the model numbers in america though.
I used several netgear and really like them a lot. I personally would not buy a DLink anything.
thank u for ur suggestions, the router is fine, i dont care anymore but its nice to get some help
Who is shy guy
That would be his user title for his rank. I'd suggest you not spam.

Anyways, any Linksys router is usually a safe bet, and they generally start cheap.
i realized link sys has a very good reach and is good with wiis and laptops

Actually like the DS the Wii supports B and G standards. It's N that won't work.

I thought the wii was 11b only?
Straight from the Wii Operations Manual under wireless router:
"Use an 802.11 compatible Access Point"

No specification on G or B but I do remember hearing that it wouldn't support N.
yeah, there's no way it'll support N, It's only just been released
I also use a Netgear router. It reaches my Wii which is two floors away and works perfectly.
i am getting a linksys
I used to used a D-Link. But after problems with not only the range I was getting but seemingly needing to reset it once a month it just became a pain. I got a Linksys and it's been doing great ever since.
