(Idea has been in progress before CZMQFRG's tourney, just to clarify. If you're looking for a short-term tourney, check out his topic)

League for all Strikers players for now. If players outside of North America experience frequent disconnects or lag with North American members, then the league will be restricted to players within the USA.

Surging Strikers League's Headquarters!

What is the SSL?
SSL stands for the Surging Strikers League. This is an organized league for the upcoming game, Mario Strikers Charged. The game released in the states on July 30th, though it has been out in both Australia and Europe for quite some time. The SSL is meant to offer a competitive, yet friendly league for friends to compete in and increase replay value of the game itself.

Why is This Being Created?
The league is being created to try and gain a better experience from the game using it's online modes. The creation of this league adds more value and importance to matches, as well as adds long-term goals such as playoffs, bragging rights, rivalries, and prizes for the winners. An all-around active league normally provides more replay value and excitement to otherwise typical matches.

Why Should I Care?
If the offering of being able to play in an organized league with known friends is not enough, prizes will be awarded in the form of banners and/or avatars to the champion of each completed season. Season's will run rather short, giving everyone a clean slate to try again if they should falter or run into some bad luck. The combination of prizes, bragging rights, and a league being organized by dedicated leaders should be enough to entice anyone to at least give the league a chance.

Who Are the Leaders That Are Running This?
The league is currently being run by myself (Hammy) and my close friend, Alpha. Though he and his friend have developed the site, it is my job to advertise and hope to encourage others to join. However, others will help with the updating of the schedule, standings, etc. in order to provide quick updates for our league members. We are both aware and willing to do ALL of the updating of the site from the games played by the competitors. However, just because we're organizing it, does not mean we can't compete in the league Smile

What Are the Requirements to Join This League?
In order to join the SSL, you must have
-A Nintendo Wii
-a copy of Mario Strikers Charged (Football)
-your Wii must be able to connect to the internet. If you can read this, you have a working connection to the internet.
-An email address
-Means of being contacted by other league members

How is the League Being Run?
The SSL will have 8 game seasons including a 6-team playoff after each season to determine the champion of that season. The champion of each season will be given a prize such as a banner or avatar commemorating their victory. Depending on how active our competitors are and how smoothly the league runs, the amount of games can be extended. This however is the bare bones of how the league will be run. Once people show interest in the league and join, we will set out our plans as far as game settings, reporting matches, contacting opponents, etc. All of these actions will be directed by the leaders of the league.

Game Settings
All League Games will be a Best of 3 series with 4 minute games. Absolutely no cheats should be active during play.

How Are You Keeping Track of Games?
Once a series of 3 games is completed, both players should email SSLResults@gmail.com with the results of their game , whether it be 2-0 or 2-1. It is also recommended to include the score of the games as well, similarly to how tennis is scored.

Example: "I Won/Lost 2-1 (3-0, 2-4, 4-3)"

Also include what captain you had or your username within the league, and that's it Smile

What Happens if the Game Disconnects?
In the event of a disconnect during a game, the series score and game score should be recorded, and a new game should be started with a game length that makes up for what was lost. If a difficult situation or argument arises from a disconnects, league managers should be consulted.

How Will the Draft Work?
As far as characters go, the game features 12 different captains (all of which can be used online, whether they've been unlocked or not) and each competitor will be assigned to a captain in a draft format. Captains are chosen at the beginning of each season and captain changes may only be done upon request and proposal to the leaders of the league. Once a competitor has chosen a captain in the draft, they must stick with that captain (unless a proposed switch is approved) for the entire season and playoffs.

Draft Format:
The 12 competitors are randomly put into a list in order of who will choose their captain first. If Player A drafts first, he can choose from ANY of the 12 captains in the game. Once Player A picks, the next 11 competitors can pick from the remaining 11 captains, until all have been assigned. The same captain cannot be picked twice, so if Player A picked Diddy Kong, then Diddy cannot be chosen by any of the remaining players.

Furthermore, anyone with questions for the league is free to post them here in this topic. Alpha and I will be checking here to answer any and every question regarding SSL

I'd like to say thank you to anyone who even showed enough interest to read through all that was listed above. I can give my word and sworn promise that I'll try my best to make this league a success and a fun time for everyone involved. My appreciation to anyone who signs up for the SSL!

Why not Europe? There's supposed to be no lag with friend codes as expected.

Finally what looks like to be a well-organized league! The only gripe i have is with the draft order/choosing captain setup you guys have. A solution that i think would satisfy people is this:
Everyone chooses two captains, or the two captains they are comfortable playing with, the one they are most comfrotable with goes first. When there comes a time when the captains are the same, both players than resort to their secondary captains. If these are the same, players can alternate using the captains. By doing this, it ensures most people can play to their best potential...

Hm, well, we will open up the league to Europe and if disconnects occur frequently or bad lag arises, then we will have to keep it within North America. Until then, Europeans or anyone can surely join at least through the 1st season.

Also, phr0st, your idea sounds pretty solid, I'll run it by the others in the league and see if they like it. I'm indifferent about it only due to the fact that i enjoy playing with characters/teams I'm not familiar with beacause it can help with overall ability and adapting to play styles. If the others like your idea more, then we can surely use what you've suggested.

Thanks you guys for showing interest Smile I hope to get the league going as soon as possible

Yah, I guess you do have a point there about the unfamiliarity...I think that would be alright under some conditions, like a short season, so if you suck with someone you can change after a week of having them, if one season runs around a month long than I can see how people could get frustrated... I still like the idea of having backups so 90% of the time you'd be able to play someone using someone you're comfortable with...

Hammy, do you have the game yet?

Friend Code?

...well, considering I'm now getting two sides from this, I may as well have to just test it on my own before getting a full understanding. (And yeah, I have the game, and ill get my friend code up shortly)

Also, those willing to join should fill out the form at the bottom of the first post so that people have means of contacting you..

thx 4 sticky btw.. I'll try and get things cleared up as far as NA only or not and then get the league underway

Well when I attempt to add Pikachu failed because it told me his friend code was incorrect. I don't think it recognised it because hes not from Europe.

yeah I've heard that from multiple people now..what a damn shame..If there are enough European Strikers players, we could always have some joint league to accommodate both parties..?

btw, friend code is 073121 277349 (with a Mii who is a poke-uh-mon master 8) )

so does that mean this league has to be closed also because of the connection?
aw that sucks that means i cant play ninty wtf...nintendo should deff update that crap
well, the league surely doesn't have to close. All we need are enough NA Strikers players, which surely can be reached. Sicat, are you signing up or not interested?
well, at least ull probably be able to play people like me =). just hope u get the game before all 12 spots r taken.

im also going to need other people's friend code. even if we wont play eachother in the tournament, pm me that u want my code and we'll exchange
It could possibly be repaired in an update and a server upgrade (which, by the looks of it is inevitable), but knowing Nintendo, they'd rather go on about the amazing family controls in Wii Play

I want to join
