Nintendo World Report forums reader UncleBob has given us word that Nintendo is circulating a new type of Wii wrist strap, as seen in this photo:

As you can see, this new strap includes a little locking clip, replacing the sliding clip of the previous models, which had a tendency to slide away from the player's wrist and loosen the strap. This new model would be the fourth incarnation of the strap; the first was the original model which tended to break, the second would be the replacement straps with the thicker connector to the remote, and the third was the replacement of the replacement that lacked the Nintendo and Wii branding.

Nintendo World Report has contacted Nintendo to see if these straps are freely obtainable, but we have not yet heard back. We'll update this story once we have any official comment.

I really have to say that I'm impressed with the new wriststrap. Hopefully if our wriststraps break from this point on, we will be refunded with these.

They can't give away more free straps surely, 'cause I don't remember hearing version 2 of the straps killing people so.. probably have to pay for these I recon.
On the Nintendo UK phone, they still say "If you're calling about a broken wristsrap press 1"
More wriststraps? I under-estimated the stupidy of the general population of Wii owners. Hold your Wiimote properly people. Toungue
Now now Ninty, that's not nice *points Wiimote at screen quickly, breaks off and smashes the screen*

Ooops....
Lol, No but seriously. I don't understand how people manage to have enough power in their movement and not have a tight grip on the remote. Even if you let go of the remote, if you have your wrist strap on like tightly so its secure then the remote shouldn't fly out of your hand, and if the wrist strap snaps then you obviously need to stop doing such big/powerfull movements.

Nintendo should send out a survey asking who has dropped their Wii-remote? was they wearing the wrist strap? and how old they are. >.>

The new strap is very cool, hopefully, they'll come with Wiimotes soon because I need to buy another one. i never had to place my original, so I own a collectors item Smile

Edit Wrist is spelled wrong in the title.
That's a point... in years to come, a unbroken original wrist strap will become an antique Toungue
I'm not going to be needing any new ones anytime soon. I already have 12 free replacements ;o

Huh?!? I fixed it straight after I made the post. Lagtastic.....

edit - oops, I see, it was still wrong lol. Originally it said "wirststrap", then it said "wrirststrap" lol

Hm...this will wear the same place on the strap over time.... with too much stress, it would snap the main line. lol.

^.^

Yeah, i dont get how people can actually through there wiimote at the screen or across the room, i mean unless body builders are playing with it or overly overweight people who are strong =S, even so, i see no point of using such agressive forces with the wiimote, but i guess Nintendo hanging in with this 'problem' and maing better wrist straps...?
ow come on i dont even use wii straps lol i only threw the remote once and that was on purpose Wink
i threw my wrist straps away the day i got my wii and the day i got my second controller. sure, i've hit objects on a few occasions w/ them (friends, tables, empty beer bottles, etc), but never thrown them.
If these wrist straps cost anything then I am fine with the ones that I have.
