High Street retailer HMV has admitted a pre-order listing for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots on the Xbox 360 was a mistake by its online admin team, GamesIndustry.biz is reporting.
The listing caused a stir over the weekend, with websites and forums assuming it was evidence that the anticipated PlayStation 3 title was no longer a Sony exclusive.
"In his enthusiasm, one of our online games team indicated that hmv.co.uk would start taking pre-orders for MGS4 on Xbox 360, when, in fact, he simply meant to ask customers if they wished to receive an alert in the event of this title one day coming out on this platform," admitted the retailer to GamesIndustry.biz

"We're sorry to have caused such a stir - the oversight has now been corrected."
Although Konami maintains that the latest title in the Metal Gear franchise is a PlayStation 3 exclusive, numerous reports and rumours - some from Konami employees themselves - have hinted that it may not remain on a single format in the future.

Good news for Sony...at least for the moment. With all the controversy over this game and who's gonna get it...you know it's gonna sell like mad.
I still think it'll go to the 360 eventually but I think this is just clarifying something that we all knew.
Like HMV would be the first place to let the news out.
I wonder how many die hard MGS fans finally forget the speculation and just buy a PS3 to get this title. Who knows what the price of the system will be when this game launches. Plus, let's say this game did come out for the 360 4-6 months after the PS3 launch...I'm not sure if gamers would want to wait that long to have this game in their hands.

All this being said, I will probably be picking it up on the PS3. Due to my interest in Kojima and how he will utilise SIXAXIS.
I think by the time this game comes out the PS3 will be affordable enough that gamers won't have great turmoil if it only comes out on the PS3 anytime soon.
Plus LM-X is correct, the sixaxix controls should add more to the over all game
True, since the beginning I've said 'I'll probably get a PS3 for MGS and other such games,' suppose I'll just stick with my 360 with the likes of Halo 3 coming out, until Sony decide it's right (which they should of done ages ago) to make the PS3 cheaper. I realise they won't make as much profit per console as a business, but they sure would generally by amount sold. Tis a shame..
Well video game consoles have never made profit when launched until the Nintendo Wii. I also think that Sony is looking at the PS3 and saying...do we want to drop the price again so that people will go out and just buy PS3's for Blu Ray players and get their business partners throughly pissed off at them.
I think when Lair is launched will get a chance to see a high profile game and see how it plays and looks. If it does well then that should be a good sign for gamers that they can't trust future games will have that same level of quality.
Aaaah I forgot completly about the Blu Ray, you're right.. People would end up just using 'em for Blu Ray due to the price (some probably do already) so the BR companies won't exactly want to work with them again, never thought about it that way, but they're still not really do themselves any favours. And also, the 360 only broke-even sometime this year (doesn't help with all their failures of consoles..) but I still think PS3 will be waiting awhile til they're making hella profit..
Here's my thought...if the format war between Blu Ray and HD DVD comes to an end this holiday season and Blu Ray wins...then buying the PS3 at a discounted price will be totally justified to most people. I think there are those gamers/movie buffs who aren't sure if they want to jump into the PS3 even if it does have a Blu Ray player because maybe that format won't win....we'll just have to wait and see.

this game will sell systems, and I'm guessing MS is working hard to get it over the the 360. that being said this is excellent news for Sony and the PS3, but who knows what will be reported tomorrow or next week?
We just need Universal to come around. Should be any week now. (I really want the bourne movies in Blu-ray)

Thats what makes me think the PS3 sell the most consoles in the long run. The price will eventually drop enough to be affordable for most people. Everyone will realise what Blu-ray can do and HD-DVD will die, and there will be lots of amazing games on the PS3.
Just because I think that it doesn't mean I don't love and cherish my Wii.
